Why does my status bar disappear in apps?

I have a samsung galaxy s7, my carrier recently forced me to update to Android 7.0. My top status bar appears fine on my home screen, but in all other apps it is just a black bar displaying nothing... I can't see the time, my connection or battery power unless I go back to home screen.... pulling the status bar down in apps works but still doesn't display the missing info at the top.

Do you have a theme installed? If you do, the color might be clashing with the status bar background and 'not' show text. That being said, I don't see why that would happen. The status bar, unless in multi-window mode, should always display information.
