Hi,

If I use the S8 as a mobile hotspot will it drain the battery significantly faster than normal?

I have an iPad Pro 10.5 with a SIM card in it with Verizon unlimited data. It’s an extra $20 a month on top of my regular cell phone plan which also has unlimited data, so that is why i’m asking.

It does use extra battery because you're using the Wi-Fi radio and LTE, but it isn't excessive.

But while you have unlimited data on your phone, the hotspot is usually limited. For example, I have unlimited data, but my hotspot using the phone is limited to 15 GB/mo high-speed, then it's throttled down to 600 kB/s.

Always plugged in I need the hotspot for an extended period of time. It does drain the phone.

I haven't noticed a significant drain. But then I use extended 8500 mAh batteries.

Is there an app that can bypass the 15GB hotspot limit?

I noticed the same thing, making it a hotspot for other devices drains the battery, which is not a surprise.
