I'd pick Pixel 2 XL over the S9 + 6 out of 7 days per week. But you're in the S9 forum, so most people are about to say S9+.

The Pixel camera is the one all others are being compared to - and its HDR+ mode still beats the S9+. (As a Samsung owner for years, I went with the Pixel.) You also get updates almost the day they're released by Google (sometimes on that day) - Samsung is notorious for late updates, or waiting a few months to combine a few fixes into one update. (I got my Pixel in early February, turned it on and it updated.)

About the only problem with the XL is the screen burn-in, but they've already addressed that. (I wouldn't go with the Verizon variant, though, if you ever hope to toot the phone or install TWRP or another ROM or kernel - Verizon locked the phone down. The Google model is the same phone, but it's not only open, Google has a couple of web pages, one for the entire ROM, one for the updates. Google has no problem with your flashing the phone, Verizon does. (And it takes less than a week to get it from Google. Time payments are about the same. No interest if you make all the payments on time. The only difference is waiting a few days - and having an unlocked phone.)

Both? In reality S9+_ is cheaper and overall a better value compared to Pixel 2 XL (I currently use Pixel 2 XL).

Probably talking about the 128gb version. It's more expensive than the S9+.

Better camera at dual lens zoom, otherwise still weaker than pixel 2 xl in most of the ways that matter most for 99% of the photos people take

I had the same debate, but for me I had to prioritize the screen quality over timely and small incremental software updates. The camera is going to be excellent and as good as the Pixel 2. Also, it helped me a great deal by going into a Verizon store and actually holding both devices in hand. Albeit, I held a S8, but it's pretty much the same feel in hand as the S9. Holding both devices sold me on the quality of the S9. I also prefer having a manual camera mode, headphone jack and expandable storage.

In most situations, it's not about which phone is better or faster. It's about which phone will work better for you. What do you prioritize and what things are important to you. Only you can make that choice in the end. I'm currently using the G6 and by size comparison, the PXL2 is quite a bit taller so I can't imagine using it and it fitting into my front pants pocket comfortably.

The only thing of concern to me with the S9 is the curved screen. Which is why I'll be buying a glass screen protector. The first time I will be using a screen protector with a phone since the days of plastic screens.

I'm running the Pixel camera on my Note 8 and it's giving me results that are comparable to what I had from the actual Pixel XL 2. I switched back and forth but ultimately settled on the Note because as wonderful as the timely monthly updates are, they break basic and important functionality in a subset of Pixels every 2nd month or so.

I love people saying the camera on the s9 is better or as good as the pixel 2 because of a DxO mark score. Anyone whos actually used the pixel 2 xl like myself and have seen these s9 samples and reviews know the s9 still doesn't come close. What makes the pixel 2 xl camera what it is, is its post processing. The portrait mode alone is the best in the business and in itself puts the camera above the rest. Its all point and shoot and requires no manipulation to get the best shots. You don't understand unless you have used one. The video as well is far superior thanks to its image stabilization. The s9 and s8 have a jello type stabilization which warps the image when you move and doesn't look natural unlike the pixel 2 xl which looks almost as if your are using a gimbal. Night and day.

Until Samsung proves one of its devices can go more than 3-4 months without needing a factory reset due to lag and jank, there is no question for me. Now, give me an Android One S9+ and I may be sold.

Pixel has quicker updates. And the s9 would have faster chip and more ram. Pricing on pixel is better as Verizon has 300 off with 275 for my trade in where as s9 is 350 with trade in. Tough choice

The faster chip and more ram thing I get, but I would argue that based on the S8 and Note 8 performance that we've seen, the Pixel 2 is probably still going to hold its own in real world performance.

I waited for the S7 over the S6, as the S7 had fixed all of the S6's faults, and the S9 appears the same over the S8. Stronger construction, thicker glass, stereo speakers, and better camera. I never buy the first model of anything and it's always served me well. Minor upgrades over the S8, but all worthwhile if you plan to keep a phone for 2 years. To me, the pixel 2 is an ugly phone, with a much worse screen (compared to Samsung). The difference in the cameras is miniscule for the typical phone user, which people are stressing far too much about

The problem with the Pixel line for me is the lack of microSD memory expansion. Otherwise I'd definitely consider it.

I'm so camera-centric for phones, that I think I would not give up my Pixel 2 XL for the S9+. But the Pixel XL is wider too. My wife has the S8+ and it is much easier to hold.

I'm going back and forth like crazy on these two! Google Store has a sweet deal on the Pixel XL2 right now (trade in credit + $100 Google credit, unlocked or Verizon) which would knock my $ for it to $599 for the 64G. I like that the phone has a 2 year warranty and 3 years of updates (I think that' up to Android R). But drawbacks are processor, no headphone jack or extra storage option. But I do love the quick updates (how quickly they responded to updating screen color options).

Wait, you lost me on this one. Do you mean you'd choose the S9+ over the Pixel 2 XL because of camera? Because the Pixel 2 XL is still a stronger camera in every category that matters except for the ability to use the second lens for zoom. The Pixel 2 XL is stronger in Exposure & Contrast, Color, AutoFocus and Texture, as well as photos requiring a flash. The S9 is stronger at zoom. They're fairly close in video, although the Pixel 2 XL is winning there on everything except color, which the S9+ won on. Based on that, if you're camera centric, shouldn't you pass on the S9+ if you already have the P2XL?
