Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 -- Why does my tablet act spastically when not charging?

We recently received a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 the other day and booted it up to test it out. Upon powering it on, we realized some important issues with the tablet.

1. The screen reacted as if something were touching the screen, prompting random programs to open, for actions to be undone/redone, random swiping to different pages, etc.
2. The purple streak that appears around the Samsung logo when powering-up does not completely disappear, and can be seen at certain angles/screen (ie. lock screen immediately following power-up).

This issue seems to occur only when the tablet is not charging, either through a direct connection with the charger, or through the keyboard it came with.

We did a factory reset, because there wasn't much to lose, and at that point no Google results gave us what we needed. The issue was gone for about ten minutes before it started again.

To my knowledge, we did not download additional apps that were not already on some of our Samsung devices. It seems the issue persists with a Bluetooth mouse connected as well.

Any insight or solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated!
