Hey, moderators, do we need Pixel and Pixel XL boards?

Do we really need separate "Pixel" and "Pixel XL" boards?

My impression is that they are the same phone with the primary difference being battery and screen size. It would be easier to manage discussions if they were all in a single board.

Re: Hey, moderators...

I agree, it's a bit confusing to have two different forums, considering we're essentially talking about the same phone

Re: Hey, moderators...

What if one has issues the other one doesn't have, seems like a lot of needless sorting through posts.

As I said, they appear to be the same phone with the exception of screen and battery. Probably 990 issues out of 1,000 will be relevant to both phones; the remaining 10 shouldn't be that hard to sort through. :)

Re: Hey, moderators...

yup, please combine the 2. this way we can get better discussions. it's the same phone except for size and battery.

Re: Hey, moderators...

I don't have a dog in this fight but would agree to combine them.

Re: Hey, moderators...

Moved to Site Feedback for James to see.

Re: Hey, moderators...

OMG if we cross both boards, can you even imagine DOUBLE the whiny "WHY ISN'T THE BATTERY BIGGER!??!??1/1?!?1/?!?" would be even waaaay more terrible than it already is??

Keep
Them
Separate

for the love of god......

Re: Hey, moderators...

My opinion separate, cases, etc will need to be different too.

Re: Hey, moderators...

That could be easily handled by separate Accessories sub-forums.

Why would we want to have two discussions concerning, let's say, the camera, when it is identical in both phones with identical software behind it? Nearly every discussion I can imagine would be more helpful to both Pixel and Pixel XL owners if the users of both were contributing.

Re: Hey, moderators...

Personally I would be on board with one thread that covers both because aside from the dimensions and the screen resolution and the battery dies I'm not aware of any differences that would cause us to treat them differently. And that is different than situations like with the S7 and S7 Edge from earlier this year.

Re: Hey, moderators...

Probably SEO reasons.

Re: Hey, moderators...

First off, thanks all for the feedback here. Totally appreciate it.

We're going to stick with multiple forums for some good reasons:

1) It gives community members dedicated places to talk about a device with complete clarity. If you're in the Pixel forum, you know conversations are about the Pixel. Same goes for XL.

2) Same goes for accessories. We can create subforums for accessories for each (which we will create soon). Very helpful for members.

3) It gives our editorial device specific places to link to from the blogs.

4) Allows us to actually gauge interest in popularity of the device, which in turn helps feed our editorial.

Could go on with more reasons but I think the 4 listed above are solid :)

Uh huh. Except when, as in the case of me and the Moto G4: One gets tired of having to visit multiple forums to keep up with what's happening on all the (sometimes minor) variations of a product and just plain stops reading them entirely.

It's your forum, and it's free, so I'm not complaining. Just pointing out that all this fine-grained separation is sometimes sub-optimal.

Re: Hey, moderators...

Thanks for keeping separate. Different sizes and issues as mentioned.

Honestly, there are unlikely to be any different issues with the possible exception of battery life.

Already you can find essentially duplicate threads in both forums on a wide range of concerns. When I have a question I have to search both forums to see if it has already been addressed and if I want to chime in on the bottom - facing speaker, for example, I need to do that in two places as well.

But, whatever. The decision has been made and I will live with it.

Re: Hey, moderators...

I think the general forums should be merged but keep the accessories forums separate.
