Hey, moderators, do we need Pixel and Pixel XL boards?

Re: Hey, moderators...

I have have to agree with the combine them group. Sorting through both for the same conversation will get old fast. I for one will end up participating less.

Combined there will be critical mass and much richer discussion. The analog is more like different carrier versions than it is different phones.

Re: Hey, moderators...

First off, thanks all for the feedback here. Totally appreciate it.

We're going to stick with multiple forums for some good reasons:

1) It gives community members dedicated places to talk about a device with complete clarity. If you're in the Pixel forum, you know conversations are about the Pixel. Same goes for XL.

2) Same goes for accessories. We can create subforums for accessories for each (which we will create soon). Very helpful for members.
:)

#1 is already not true. Both devices are being discussed already on both boards. As others have stated, the bulk of the topics we discuss will be applicable to both.

#2 can have all the accessories sub forms by device still, that has not impact on a merge.

Linking may be valid for you guys, not me as a user.

I doubt you are going to drive many different editorial decisions about Pixel based on the forum split, but maybe.

OK well, I've said my thoughts.

Re: Hey, moderators...

Please combine. It's a PIA to check both.
Same phone.
We can deal with the 2 diff sizes - we're adults. :)

3) It gives our editorial device specific places to link to from the blogs.

4) Allows us to actually gauge interest in popularity of the device, which in turn helps feed our editorial.

Could go on with more reasons but I think the 4 listed above are solid :)

James,

Thanks for providing the rationale. I can respect the strategy, but would like to offer my '2 cents.'

1. The vast majority of threads in either forum have been and can reasonably be expected to remain pertinent to both devices. It's true that if I own a Pixel XL, I will have to be mindful that there may be some threads - generally concerned with battery life or display of the Pixel - that are not necessarily relevant. But... I think most of the people here would gladly deal with that minor inconvenience than the much larger chore of reviewing one entire forum and most of another (outside of those outliers mentioned above) in order to be 'informed enthusiasts,' as I suspect most AC'ers can be classified. Especially when there's a thread of specific interest on a common attribute (e.g., camera performance) where, after reviewing the associated thread in one forum, they would have to mull through a large amount of essentially cloned posts to find those "needles in the haystack" that are different.

2. It's possible I could be missing something, but I can't conceive of a single benefit to having the accessory subforums under different primary forums. If the primary Pixel and Pixel XL forums were merged, you could have separate Accessory subforums for each and it would be of no detriment.

3. For purposes of linking from blogs, I don't necessarily disagree with the benefit separate forums provide except in that often people clicking there from said blog might have an interest in a specific area that isn't covered in that linked forum, but is in the other. In that instance, having them combined could actually be of more value.

4. I can't agree or argue with you on this point as I don't know how you reach your determinations in this respect.

In short, I would submit that the benefits of keeping the primary forums separate would be substantially outweighed by those gained from integrating them (and, as mentioned earlier, operating discrete accessory subforums).

Thanks for your consideration.

Very well stated. Most of the reasoning for separate is naval gazing and not customer centered.

Re: Hey, moderators...

FYI, the site heard you guys and has made the requested change. Nice work :)
