Advice for overheating problems/issues with my Sony Xperia Z1

Any advice and suggestions because my Sony Xperia Z1 keeps overheating and will go for long periods of time before I can get it to turn back on when I plug it up to my charger. And also it shuts down sometimes when overheated while I have it charging it up, which I know is normal sometimes, but it is happening more frequently now.
