Who thinks it would be worth switching from this phone to the Nexus S when it comes? Yea, it's the same phone; but, no keyboard and sinceit's google's sure you will get the updates.

Hmm, or wait for HTC Dual Core. HMMM.

I like both ideas :) I like our hardware though. If HTC doesn't have anything better out by then I'll be getting the Nexus. I love the thought of vanilla Android!

I'd switch...the Epic keyboard is garbage. But aside from that its an amazing device. So to do away with the keyboard would be a very much welcomed change.

Some ROMs, like SyndicateROM, have made the physical keyboard much more responsive, i.e. no more missed keys due to lag.

Right now as I type this I can't see it because the text box doesn't come up in landscape and I can't scroll down fast enough

I thought the keyboard on the Epic was supposed to be one of the best on the market? Why do you think it is garbage?

the nexus s + wimax or lte and a dualcore processor = my dream phone.

The best hardware, the best networks, a huge dev community and pure google- is it really too much to ask for? ;)

whats wrong with the Epic 4G besides the fact that it doesn't get updates

That's precisely the reason lol. I love my Epic, but vanilla Android is just the best. No overlays to hog your RAM and resources. Not to mention timely updates. The keyboard on the Epic does skip a lot of keys, but I usually just use Swype anyway lol.

Um, won't this basicly be an Epic sans keyboard? Same CPU, Probably same WImax chipset, same everything?

So we get the best of both worlds! This will be a HUGE bonanza for us as I'd guess ROMS will be as close to 100% compatible?

I could be wrong. Being right would be funner though!

BTW, this would make the rumors of a post-froyo upgrade seem more and more likely to me.

I like the keyboard for me its the saving grace because typing on the screen is difficult and I honestly think swipe is somewhat useless. I would wait for a dual core phone. If you're going to get stuck with it for a year make sure it's a newer technology! Also, make sure that the phone will get supported.

I am not the only one that did not get the galaxy froyo update correct?

Warmest Regards,
Brian

This will NOT be a google phone. It's billed as the "Samsung Nexus S 4G," not the "Google Nexus S." It's going to have Sprint ID, too. It's not being sold as carrier-independent, so all of the Samsung+Sprint goodness that managed the Froyo update on the Epic so well will be at work here.

The only benefit of this device is that it will ship with 2.3 before the 2.3 update for the Epic finally sees the light of day.

Except for the lack of a keyboard, there's nothing to see here....

The fact that it skips keys constantly irritates me. I cant type a paragraph without missing keys every other word. The layout of the keyboard is great but the actual usefulness of it is less than stellar.

I'm just excited about it because it will make gingerbread easier for us.

Cyanogenmod 7 is already well on it's way. Hopefully in the next few days it will be able to send and receive calls. The big thing is no 4g though, and that's where the nexus s 4g could be useful if it is using the same radio.

That does sound like garbage. You would think a keyboard thag is as gorgeous as the one on the Epic would be useful. I guess not.

I loved the keyboard until the update.zip 2.2 update. Now I have to slow down my typing and constantly fix missed keys.

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if the benefits of this 2.2 update were worth the costs. Yes I know about rooting and ROMS but I shouldn't have to go that route for basic functionality. New features and extra customization sure...but not to make standard functions work properly.
