hey all i had an s3 and just got the note 3. i love the phone but there are a couple things i miss from the s3. the first is how do i get the note 3 screen to come on when i receive a message ? also when getting text messages they show on the lock screen. how do i get them not to be there ? thanks

Well, this may not be quite what you want, but take a look at NoLED in the Play store. It can be used to get indications on the screen when you get things like messages, e-mails, missed calls, etc., but the screen is basically still off (black, with just dots or icons). I've been using it since I had my old original Epic, and it works pretty well for letting me know (a) when something comes in and (b) what's coming in. I hope this is of some help.

not what i was lookin for, honestly i may have worded the question a bit wrong, but id like my note 3 with how it receives messages like the galaxy s3 does right out of the box.

Sorry, I don't know then. I came to the Note 3 from an original Galaxy S. Maybe someone else can help.

Are you using the standard messaging app? If you look through it you'll have some options, but not sure if that is any of them. I know I use Handcent and can do all the things you're talking about.

You can use espier lock screen and espier notifications from the play store. They do look like iOS though :-\
Handset SMS has popup notifications that you can set to wake when receiving a SMS message.

i would prefer my note3 to not look like ios, but to have the screen illuminate like the s3 when a text message is received and also for the message not to be displayed on the lock screen. thank you tho

In order for the text not to show up on the lockscreen, there's an option that disables the notification on the status bar and the lock screen. It sucks, I know. It especially doesn't make sense when you enable a PIN or pattern and it still shows.

As far as lighting up, I have no idea. I'm sure Handcent has a "pop up" setting that will light up your screen.

Check out this app in Google Play:

Free version works great, and there's a paid version with more features.

Basically mimics what Motorola did for the Moto X's Active Notifications. I *love* it, since it doesn't actually turn the screen on all the way, but a quick swipe can either open the notification, dismiss it, or even just unlock the phone if the notification reminds me that I forgot to do something else.

Since the N3 uses an AMOLED screen, it uses very little battery to show notifications, while still allowing you to jump straight into the app.

i am lookin for the note 3 to act like the s3 does right out of the box. unless this not possible....

already tried that setting. i guess what i am tryin to say is that i do not want message or preview of said message on my lock screen and also for the screen to illuminate when said message is received just like my s3 does right out of the box.

I use the Contacts+, it can replace your contact, calling, and text app. When I use the app and my screen is of it will illuminate and show your message in a small box. It's also free.

Do you guys know how to make it read the name of whom you recieved the message but not the message its self. I could do this on my iPhone 5 and I was wondering could you do it on SGN3?

I have Handcent for my text messages. I love it because you can customize it so many ways. I just now figured out how to make the screen come on when you get a text. You have to go into the notification settings in Handcent, under Settings/Notification Settings/Notification Settings (yes, that's twice). Then click the Screen On option for when the popup option is disabled. You can also choose to have it come on when the popup is enabled, as well. It was really driving me nuts because my last phone would wake up so that I could see if I got a text even if I wasn't looking directly at the screen at the time. Now I'm a happy girl.
