I talked to someone from AT&T today and asked specifically about my unlimited plan the I was grandfathered in. I won't be losing it when I switch to the Inspire on the 14th.

What have you all heard about the change in the data pro plan? I read somewhere it was going up to 4gb/mo and $45 but if you already have it before the 13th your price stays at $25? I'm currently using the 200 mb plan and staying under because I'm on wifi alot but my situation may be changing and I think I should grab the pro plan and get grandfathered into the current price. Thoughts?

i dont think you know what your talking about.
the nexus one has no free wifi connectivity thing. are you talking about tethering?

if so the inspire will be able to do the same thing. if youre talking about the rooted wifi tether app then yes, that too will come - nearly the second it comes out im sure itll be rooted

and also carrying around your N1 for that one app alone, and changing your sim seems like a lot of work. if your traveling somewhere id imagine you can just use your phones data rather than switch sim cards etc. if your at school or work just use wifi for christ's sake. not to mention worrying about battery for your N1 especially if tethering wirelessly!

anyways, dont worry the inspire will be ale to do everything your N1 can and more
You have over 600 posts at AC and you don't know the Nexus One has free WiFi hotspot capabilities?? That is/was the whole point of the Nexus One, it's not tied to any carrier, so they cannot control what you do with it. I've been using it's free WiFi hotspot for almost a year now.

Trust me, it's well worth it to carry around the Nexus to use it's free wifi hotspot feature when other people are paying $30 or $40 for metered Wifi hotspot!

Oh, and btw, yes it has built in tethering too, also free.

I am waiting on a response for this very question, I emailed them 2 days ago now with no response. I have a Nexus 1 that I am using my iPhone unlimited plan with, so I do not want to loose that. I am also curious if with this upgrade comes a new sim card (for the HSPA+). It would suck if I ended up with the Nexus one and was not able to use it as a back up phone or the wifi hotspot when I need it because I had a non-compatible sim card.

I upgraded my wife's 1st gen iPhone to the iPhone 4 and they let me keep the unlimited data, so that has me hoping they will do the same when I upgrade.

I feel like AT&T has been VERY vague about this whole HSPA+ roll out. I know they don't have phones out yet but the have been selling the shockwave modem (HSPA+ compatible) for a while now. I am really hoping the have some transparency like T-Mobile on where they are pulling off the upgrades. (The room roars with laughter at that one!)
I think we're going to be ok. All of the Inspire reviewers so far have been sent the Inspire for review and none of them have said they had to use a new SIM, so I think we're golden in that regard.

Now it's always possible they will try and make us use a new SIM if we go in to the AT&T store to get the Inspire.

I agree with you tho: I will not make this move if I cannot still use my Nexus One, for the same reasons you mention.

I just received the email from AT&T, here is the meat of it:

"Yes, the unlimited plan will be available to you as long as you stick with a Smartphone when changing phones, or unless you choose to downgrade your data plan, if you choose to go away from the unlimited plan you would not be able to get it back"

Nice! Sign me up for the pre-order. Now I have to figure out how to root it. Anyone, anyone. Bueler?

Thanks for the update man. :) From Everyone's posts in this thread I think those of us with unlimited plans are solid.

Post a picture or screen cap of this email. Because I have now spoken to 2 customer service agents, and 3 early cancellation specialists...

"Once you leave the iPhone, you lose the unlimited data plan."

I called today, as a matter of fact, to speak on this topic, and everyone I spoke with said I would lose this plan.

I don't mind losing it if I have to... I've never come close to 2GB of usage. But it would be nice to keep if I can.

Got this right off the AT&T website

Q: I am using a Smartphone Data Unlimited Plan. Do I need to sign up for a DataPlus or DataPro plan instead? Can I switch Between these New Data Plans As Needed?

A:*If you were on a Smartphone Data Unlimited plan prior to June 7th, 2010, and would prefer to keep it, no problem! Even if you choose to upgrade to a new Smartphone and/or extend your contract. You may choose to move from your unlimited plan to either a DataPlus or DataPro plan. However, once you have moved to a DataPlus or DataPro plan, your old unlimited plan will no longer be available.

Just type in unlimited data in the search box at att and you can find the above information.

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for contacting AT&T about your wireless service. My name is Linda Brown and I am more than happy to assist you today with your inquiry regarding Smartphone data requirements.

Thank you for your inquiry into our retired Smartphone plans. Existing Smartphone customers with an unlimited data plan who want to move to a different Smartphone model, e.g., BlackBerry to iPhone, or iPhone to Android, will be presented with the applicable retired unlimited data plan for the device they are wishing to upgrade or change to. As long as you keep the unlimited plan, and do not remove it, you can move from Smartphone (device type) to Smartphone (device type).

I hope this information has been helpful. We are here to assist you and appreciate having the opportunity to serve you. I encourage you to visit us at https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...olam%2FloginAction.olamexecute&token=iDS_MQ3E often to view your monthly account statements, make payments and shop for new products and services. I pre-ordered my phone @ RadioShack, so I am going to print that out and bring it with me - just in case. :)

I go the inspire today at Costco and they took away my unlimited plan. They took it off my old plan because it could not be added to the new phone, when they went to add it to the inspire it was not possible. They spent over an hour on the phone with at&t and the best they could do was put the 2GB data on my phone for now and note my account. Tomorrow I am supposed to try talking to customer service when they have the inspire plans out. I will be livid if I loose my unlimited plan, I have an email from AT&T stating I would not loose my plan so I am going to go in with that, hopefully it will work.

You won't be talking to anyone tomorrow. You'll be talking to them Monday. They are closed Sundays.

Prepare to be disappointed. I think I will go to the ATT owned store so this doesn't get screwed up for my grandfathered unlimited plan that I have had for like 4-5 years now.

What I did, and I think everybody should do, is call AT&T and tell them what your doing. Tell them your upgrading and want to keep the Unlimited Data plan. Ask them to note your account.

When I called I did this and they noted my account. They also said that if for some reason the store doesn't know what they are doing or it doesn't let them go from Unlimited to Unlimited, they should call AT&T.

I just got back from my local AT&T store, yesterday the lady said I had to get the new 4GB + Tethering for $45. I went back about 3 hours ago and a different person said I can keep my unlimited data that I had with my iPhone 3gs and get the Inspire an keep my unlimited data. I was sold so I got my new Inspire...its my 1st HTC but I like it so far.
