    FYI. I got the update a few weeks ago but I did a factory reset on my phone and lost it. I just chatted with Tech support and they were able to send it out within 2 minutes. The reason it will be gone after a factory reset is because it is considered an application. There wasnt anything that popped up like last time, it jsut appeared under Apps.

    I used the quesion that was posted earlier "Hi, your company has been releasing an OTA update for sideloading apps, I was wondering if you could access your XDM Tool and push it to the phones on my account? " and the tech knew what I was talking about.

    I think they are figuring it out. Use key words like OTA Update, sideloading apps, unknown sources, and what worked for me 3rd Party apps. I was on the phone for 66 min while they tried to push different things. No luck, said they will call back tomorrow and that i should just try to restart my phone every so often.

    I said the same as others have posted: "At&t has an Over The Air update for sideloading apps, could you access your XDM Tool and push it to my inspire 4g?" You have to get lucky and chat with someone that actually knows what's going on or else it'll take forever to talk sense into them. I've spent over an hour on the phone with reps before today that knew nothing of this update and it was pretty aggravating. Good luck!

    I just used the "technical chat" on the at&t site and spoke with Angela, she knew what I was talking about and added me to a list that could take up to 72 hrs to receive the sideloading update. Hopefully I actually get this damn thing.
    a Nadine Fuqua gave me the same response ....

    I talked to Angela and she pushed it to my phone. She said it could take anywhere from 2-48 hours to get.

    Just spoke to Janae via tech support chat, had the update sent to my phone. She had me turn the phone off, wait a minute or so and had me turn it back on. I checked to see if it was there and it was. Less than ten minutes after two calls and another tech chat over a week to get it.

    Damn i didnt think this many people would not have the update by now. I woke up one morning and went to my manage apps in settings and it was just there. Almost 2 weeks ago i guess. I didnt really even care to check for that specifically because i wanted to empty the data cache for the fmylife app. LOL. BTW i got plants vs zombies for free today from amazon. Sooo awesome. Not rubbing it in at all. Anyway just be patient, it will come to you in a matter of time. Idk why its taking so long. Maybe there are alot of devices out on the market that they need to update. The captivate and the aria were the 2 best android phones on att till literally this past February so getting the small update out to millions of users is difficult.

    Just got on Technical Chat and got a Rep. that knew exactly what I wanted and within 4min. had the update. This is my 4th attempt and finally got lucky. Moral is keep trying!!

    In the future, with updates like this, AT&T should keep it top secret until the update is sent out to all devices, THEN send us a message "hey we sent you an update".

    so its been 1hr 10min....no update.
    funny thing is that i can't get back on tech chat....
    its like at&t blocked me from getting back on....
    i hate the at&t website.

    EDIT....ok..found a way to get back to chat....

    this other chat sessions went much better. the rep said theyd work on it, and came back saying the update was pushed and then gave me directions to follow the on-screen instructions. i didn't need to say a thing besides: "At&t has an Over The Air update for sideloading apps, could you access your XDM Tool and push it to my inspire 4g?"
    she gave a timeframe of 24 hours..and not 15min as the first lady said.

    I also got a 24 hour time frame, and am at the half way mark. gonna try again in 12 more hours if I don't receive the update.

    not trying to sound like an a$$ but why are their post about the experience posted about when they talk to a rep. and how bad att is?

    other ? is, is this update for 2.2.1 or is it for all software on phones?

    Called again last night. At first the rep had no idea what I was talking about. But he did get a tech on the phone who first said it was an HTC update. After I explained to him what it was, he understood and found the xdm link to send it to my phone. He called back a couple hours later and said they were trying to push it to my phone. Kept my Wifi on all night, but no update yet.

    It's now been about six phone calls and a couple chats. At least now I'm getting people that know about the update and they are trying to send it. My last three calls, they reps have tried to send it; so there's been some progress on their end. Hopefully, the next couple days I'll get it.

    Just keep restarting your phone every couple of hours during the day because it won't be an actual update that you will be able to see.

    So first I called att and got tier 2 tech support and the lady was very helpful. Didnt know what I was talking about at first, but then she did some searching and found the update information. She sent a request to the PMC dept to have the update pushed to my wife's phone. That was last week. Nothing. No update yet. So yesterday I got on chat support and the dude on there knew right away what I was talking about and said he would help me get this update. He verified my account info. Then.....after looking at the "software version" of the phone he said the update cannot be pushed to the old software. Said I must have the latest software update. Which I do! I have android software version 2.2.1. There must be something wrong with their system saying that this phone is not fully updated. I confirmed with him that I was looking at my phones system info and AM UPDATED! He said he would have it pushed to the phone anyways, but it wont work on older software versions. You must have 2.2 or higher. WTF??? I stayed cool and thanked him for his help. He said give it 24-48 hours. I asked if I had to turn the phone off and then back on. He said that I would get a notification on the phone. So yeah....we will see. This whole update is so rediculous! For such a small update, it sure is a pain in the a$$!! All my wife wants is freaking SWYPE! I know I can use the SWM, done that before. I just want the official update. Could there be something blocking the update since I used the SWM before to install Swype?? Anyways. Good luck to us all who havent recieved it yet. Im sure they are slammed with people requesting this tiny little update. Atleast now more of the ATT techs know what we are talking about. SAD.

    Just did the chat. First thing I put in was an explanation that I had not received the update that enables installing from unknown sources and requested that it manually be pushed to me via the xbm tool. Five minutes later, while still on chat, it showed up in my menu. At this point, I believe if you haven't received it, AT&T may not know it, so you may need to let them know.

    *I did not have to restart. Suddenly, it was just there.
