0% battery

My phone was at 1% so i turned it off then when i got home plugged it in and the charging graphics came up and powered it up straight away cuz i wanted to use it... when it turned on it came up 0% while it was in the charger... and after a min it switched off... now the charging graphics don't come up... instead while in the charger it just starts booting up randomly until you see the locks screen then switches off :/ I've had it in the charger for hours its just been a constant cycle of doing this. what should i do?
