• Screen quality- kicks the booty out of the XL 2

I've read comments like this several times in these forums and I'm guessing it has a lot to do with when you bought your 2XL. My understanding is that the first wave of 2XLs had inferior screens to those made months later. I bought my 2XL last Dec., months after it was released, and I consider the screen to be quite good. In fact, on two different occasions (once in Best Buy and once in Verizon) I put my 2XL up against the 3XL and made sure color intensity and brightness were set to the same level. To me the screens were almost identical. There was a slight difference in hue/tint/color temperature but very minor. I also moved them to be at an off angle view point and again, very little difference to me.

Buying a December model doesn't mean there was a change in screen. The first wave were not inferior. It was a random number that had some QC issues m. The screens never actually changed.

Gotcha. I stand corrected. I'm just happy that I managed to snag one with what I consider to be a good screen.

I've had several RMA devices for various reasons - none of which related to screen issues - and honestly never had issues with the screen on any of my 2 XL screens. But, once I unboxed the 3 and powered it on the difference was undeniable.

I was always satisfied with the screen on my 2 XL. The first thing I did after unboxing my 3 XL was compare screens. The difference was indeed undeniable. Boxing up my 2 XL to send in for the trade offer was not a problem at all. :)

My wife was also more than pleased when she saw the comparative difference as she was to have inherited my 2 XL when I upgraded to the 3 XL. She was quite pleased that I opted to surprise her this time and buy us both a Pixel 3 XL 128! The only way you can tell them apart is that she opted for an Otterbox Symmetry clear case with gold flecks (she drops her phone frequently) and I opted for a Google Fabric "Fog" case. The two Pixel 3 XL's are absolutely identical in every way! So at least for this comparison of two there is no apparent sample variation! :)

So what made the 3 XL screen undeniably better? Was it sharper? Did you feel the colors were more life like?

The first thing that immediately jumped out at me was that on the 3 XL white's were actually white instead of having a blue cast. I made the comparison by going to the first screen of "settings" and putting the two side-by-side. I could then look at the screens at an angle and the 3 XL stayed white, the 2 XL turned a deep blue.

And yes, the colors were noticeably better on the 3 XL.

I saw the difference the moment I saw one at Best Buy after ordering. The screen just jumped out at me.
