$10 extra charge mandatory?

Sprint should drop the $10/month charge. As a sprint rep it makes no sense. Sprint is not in a position to piss of customers and detract new lines. They charge the same $60/month for the 4g aircards as they do with the 3g cards. 4g is even cheaper than 3g and when "your the best value in wireless" you should include more in the package and not charge more. Sprint will no longer have the nice even number for their $99.99 simply everything. Why should someone who doesn't get 4g pay for 4g? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Even if you are in 4g service, coverage may be spotty so the $10 becomes even less justified. Sprint claims that the premium $10 buy up is for a "richer data experience", but again if you don't live in a 4g service area how is that a "richer data experience" sounds like a poorer wallet experience in my book.

Sprint still is the best value in wireless, but I don't think they should charge extra for 4g when it doesn't cover the majority of Americans. My 2 cents.

I think that it is per- EVO not phones that are not 4g. I currently have 5 phones on family share and I am replacing my pre with the EVO. I think it is only fair to only charge the $10 extra fee one time. Not accross all phones. I guess this will get cleared up when more people start complaining.

why wouldn't they put "optional premium data feature" like they did with the hotspot? Could just be bad wording, only time will tell..

It better be just an add-on... because it'll be a long time before I get 4G where I live and I will not pay extra for a feature that I can't use!!

An add-on is an add-on. Meaning you will have a choice to "add-it-on." If you want 4G that is.

$10 extra a month is a ripoff really. I live in a place where I dont even have 3G!! I go to a college though where I have wifi wherever I go. So Sprint SHOULD NOT charge me extra for a "richer data experience" if I wont even use 4G or even 3G most of the time.

They're just being a greedy company, and we all know that Sprint is definitely not in a position to be greedy. But for now, I'm just gonna sit back and see if it's bad wording on Sprint's part.

I live in Michigan and I don't see 4g happing here for a short while. I do not mind the upgrade fee if it makes things faster but if it is a fee for 4g then I don't have that here. I will call and let them know that it is unfair to charge a customer for a service that is not in the area.

How does this work if you are replacing a secondary phone, not the main number. My secondary phone is eligible for the discount. I don't want them to switch my main number. I also don't want my discounts to get messed up. Even though I am not in a 4G area, and it is not expected anytime soon. How would the 10 be handled. I have the family 129 plan, 1500 minutes, everything else included. Will they just be able to add the 10 to the account, or does everything have to change and lose all my discounts?

Thanks It clears up a lot:D

For the people too lazy to click the link...

?$199 for the phone, after the usual two-year contract.
?$69.99 a month for the Everything Data plan.
?$10 a month if you want the 4G WiMax service. That's optional.
?$29 a month if you wan the WiFi hotspot service. And that will serve up to eight devices. This is optional, too.

Where is Android Central getting the information that it is optional. My email I received doesn't say optional and neither does Sprint's release. Did Sprint inform Android Central that this was optional. I don't think I am the only one that is questioning this. I call Sprint CS and they told me it is not an option, it is mandatory (I never believe Sprint CS, they are usually the last to know). But really, where did you get the information that it is optional, so we can all be at ease?

Phil is in New York rubbing elbows with Hesse and company at the big EVO/Prince of Persia shindig tonight.

Phil Nickinson is at the Sprint hosted event and is talking directly with people way above CS ;)

Thanks MannyZ28 I was too lazy :)

So that's good news. Save me a bunch of hassles, i hope since I'm upgrading one line but placing the phone on another as soon as I get to a computer to switch phones around.
That extra fee could've been a pain.

Now I'm happy again. Except where's the BB pre-order info?

I just got off the phone with sprint (*2) and he thought it was also going to be an option for people that have the 4G.
