$100 rebate link

Not sure I would want to trade-in the Bionic which can be useful out of Verizon service.. I can get good enough deals to buy a new phone..

Fear mostly. To use a skiing analogy, updating would be skiing out of bounds and if you trigger/get caught in an avalanche you're screwed, so it's easier to gripe about why the ski run doesn't include that territory.

I've been seriously vacillating on whether to install 242.. back and forth in self torture since last night.

If you do your research, follow instructions to the letter, and have patience(for the process), the chances of running into a problem(that can't be fixed) are next to none.

I've been flashing ROMs since the WinMo days and have yet to hardbrick a single device.

The toughest thing for me has always been doing research on which ROM I want to flash (cause I'm not an aspiring flash-a-holic, so I tend to do my research well in advance of flashing).

I used to run Cyanogen on my OG Droid. :-)

Well..... ok.. my temptation finally won.. I am pushing 242 on and I am hoping for the best here. Hopefully it is as people suspect: the release. If not, I'll update to whatever it is.

In SamuriHL I trust!

Read the fine print:

Applies to United States sales of Android Motorola smartphones first offered in 2011 or later.

I bought my Bionic on launch date - September 2010... So I doubt they will give us $100

2 things about 242....

1) Don't ever try to fxz to 905 or you will brick
2) Keep the update zip on your sdcard-ext so that if you brick yourself I can recover it for you

To be extra thorough I did a Factory Reset - I wanted to keep the old crap out and get the "prestine" experience. Every bit of data I can back up has been.. Right now I'm looking at the eye on my first reboot.

Yeesh, that first reboot takes a loooong time...

Yay, Preparing Device...

Awesome.. now to reinstall my apps and reconfig everything.

This is a really bad deal if you ask me. When I had verizon I had 2 lines one Razr Maxx and one Droid 4 and when i left verizon I sold them. I got $370 for the Droid 4 and $450 for the Razr Maxx. In order to get the $100 they want your phone so if you can sell the phone for 3-4 times as much why would you give it to motorola?

Is there a time limit to this deal? I bought the bionic almost a year to the day, so now my upgrade is in may of next year. Will I still be able to get the $100 then?

I wonder at what price point the cost of a phone is no longer worth it... For now, I'll keep buying on ebay.

Given that my wife and I use our phones as our primary internet connection it replaces at least a $100 a month bill.

Agreed.

Now if they didn't require a trade-in (just a MEID check), I'd be all over this.

So that ends that, the bionic won't be eligible if they SAY it is getting jb

As I was explaining on another forum a few minutes ago, Google canned the Moto CEO for a reason. It wasn't cause of the way he was banging out updates and unlocking bootloaders for a more open Android experience. They replaced him with an ex-Google CEO. That's a pretty big sign of unhappiness from Google. A message that "ok, play time's over, now WE'RE going to fix this mess." So I would say let's watch and see what happens with a healthy dose of remembering how Moto has been the past 2 years, and have some hope that Google will fix it. If they can deliver JB by end of 2012...that'd be a pretty big sign that they mean business IMO. Google has asked all Android mfg's to support their phones for 18 months. That means that Moto has 6 months left to get JB on the Bionic. We'll see how it goes.

I signed up.... And this rebate... Do we have to buy a new phone from Motorola for retail price?? Wouldn't it be cheaper getting a new one through Verizon when you are at the 18 month mark? IDK about you, but there are much more appealing phones out there compared to Motorola, and after the bullcrap we had to deal with in regard to data drops, updates, etc.... I personally do not want another Motorola phone. The S3 and nexus 2 (when released) are much more enticing IMO

And another thing... I ran the ICS leak. My phone wasn't nearly as fast as it used to be on GB.... So if we get JB... How much slower will my phone run???

It looks like 2011 phones that are definitely not getting ICS may be eligible for this offer.
