11/15/11 OTA GB update - is it safe?!?

Same thing just happened to me. And I;m only using 250MB of internal storage...

I cleared up some space but can't get the update message.

Wild guess here but: Just because you have enough space for the download file does not mean you have enough for Android to decompress and install the update. You may need to uninstall something to get it to work.

I just did that, the update notification came back but when it says that its going to reboot nothing happens.

Assuming you are trying to install the larger update my guess is that you are low on disc space. Leave the phone there and let it take its time to reboot. Don't get scared and do a battery pull.

I got the update and all is well. Back to Verizon in the market and settings show 3.7 inch screen. Phone is running smooth.

The update said it was 8mb and when it said it would reboot nothing happened.

I'm pretty confident that's not the issue.

Your choice but honestly unless you waited an absorbent amount of time it probably is. This kind of thing happens all the time with Blackberries because they always take forever to update and people get scared of bricking their phones and do battery pulls before it is done. Just because the UO does not show a progress of doing something does not mean that an upgrade script isn't still chugging away at something in the background.

How long would you consider "adsorbent"? Going on 40mins now...

I got the update push, tried it and then I got the message that I did not have enough space. I need to remove apps and then try again. I did that and now the update is gone as it says my phone is up to date again but I stil have 4.06.605.3.

I am having the same problem. Got the message about a new update today and then got a message about not enough space. I was about to clear up some space, but found that my phone says that I am up to date.

Really tired of the GB update for the DINC. Can't wait for my contract to be up and I can get a new phone. Hope the Galaxy Nexus will be out soon.

I received the update for the 4.06 GB build night before last. So yesterday morning I let it go thru its paces and it updated. I lost 2 apps thats it. This morning I awoke to find the update ready for the 4.08 build so I let it run and aside for a 5 min pause on the reboot screen with the red eye, everything is working fine. Fixed the market and the screen size with no other problems. My Incredible is stock and full of useless stuff and never not any of those errors everyone is getting.

Just did a hard restart for kicks, 22 seconds on the first HTC screen then super fast restart after that.

Well, I just clicked install, watched the countdown go down to zero, then went to bed for 6 hours. My phone still doesn't have the update. So... Still pretty certain that's not the issue.

Got the same message about not enough space. I just ignored it as I didn't have time this morning to start poring through the apps. And it seemed bogus to me given the excess space available on my phone. Somewhat ironic that the "patch" is buggy.

Didn't get any further messages, phone shows I have 4.06.605.3 but am up to date.

One weird thing. This morning I restarted the phone (testing out the new power key menu). When it rebooted, my wallpaper was different, and a bunch of apps were missing. A bunch of broken links with the generic Android icon, like with yesterday's update. Don't know why it happened again, since I hadn't actually updated the phone or done anything other than restart.

I unmounted and remounted the SD card, and after about 15-20 minutes, most of them are back. Two apps had uninstalled on their own and I had to reinstall.

Woke up this morning and saw my phone was finally ready for the upgrade to 2.3.4! however, I didn't want to do it till i got home this evening, so I kept hitting the "Upgrade Later" button. Well, I got home and i am no longer getting the message for the upgrade. when I check the Settings -> About Phone -> System updates, it says my system is up to date. but when i look at the software info, it says Android version 2.2. Where did my update go and how do i get it back? (Turning the phone off and on did not help) :(

Thanks!

this exact scenario happened to my wife's phone along with my phone. we kept hitting update later or whatever while we were at work.. then when we got home around 7pm, we noticed it no longer was bugging us to update and disappeared. then when i check what version im running it says 2.2 and that we're up to date.

What worked for me was changing the calendar to 1 month ahead. Got to settings/date & time/ move forward 1 month and then check for system updates. It should pop up.
Good Luck!
