128 GB phones: Do you still need SD cards?

Yeah... 256G? Not so sure about that quite yet. The 128 N5 is only in Korea, so we don't have a native US price, but the 64GB Note 5 ain't cheap. I think the 256G option might be a little too far past that hump in the price curve. It'll most likely have a 128 top end storage option, SD or not.

They are about to release the Note 5 in the UK, I've wondered if they will release the 128 gb there also after the UK release. It will be interesting to see if they release the 128 gb in other places besides SK. Even though expensive, I think it will sell, especially on the US where you can put it on a device payment plan with no interest or fees and probably only $199 down, if carriers follow precious trends from the past and how they do iPhones.

I would answer this with a yes - still in need to save the data and not leave it on the phone for ever and ever, so there is a market for that still but of course there will be people who are just into having that space on the phone not using Sd anymore, but the majority I would guess still needs it.

What is the life span of SD cards?
Im now using a 5 years old +- SD card! From a good old blackberry that introduces me to smartphones to my S3 then S5.

That is the first think I look for when buying a new phone. I really like being able to use an SD card, regardless of the on-board storage. I am using the BlackBerry Priv now, and I have a 32 gb SD in it, but it can hold up to 2 TB SD card.

This the brainwash that the cell phone industry as a whole is trying to force consumers into....

The question is not do you or don't you need it... The real question is do you or don't you want the choice? With an SD card slot in my phone THE CHOICE IS MINE, how I want to control MY DATA and where I chose to store it.

It has nothing to do with do you or don't you need it.
But since you ask... no I really don't "need" an expandable memory slot. But its sure nice to have, with .4T in lossless audio files on my external HD, I hate to clog up my phones memory with all that. Its much better to store that kind of data peripherally and reserve the on-board memory for apps and system functions.

Verizons 4G-LTE network is spotty in my area, so cloud storage networks are not really viable outside of my wifi... and they charge an arm/leg for the higher-tier data plans.

Personal preference. If you record videos , take lot of photos with your phone then even 128gb seems not enough

On average, I would think that 128GB is more than adequate. Thats what I have on my S6 edge. But I want an sd card because it makes putting on media quicker and you can keep things running quicker when all that media isn't tying things up. Thats why I got the LG V10. Then Sammy came back with the sd card on the S7 edge, so I got that.

I use a 128GB MicroSDXC that I got last month in my Note 4, which already comes with 32GB Internal.

I have already used 42GB of the card, with music, vids, series, movies etc... And there is more to come, I may need a 200GB MicroSD later this year when I get the Note 6.

With 4K gradually becoming a standard, I think having more local storage is a huge plus. Data plans down here in South Africa are expensive and LTE is spotty in some places, making Cloud Storage and Streaming something I don't regularly use.

Im very surprised that Leo Rex had so many failures. I, for one, have been using sd cards for years without a single failure. Both sd and micro SD. I do purchase high quality cards. The one I have in my lg v10 is still perfect and its the 3rd phone its been in,and its going on 5 years old. Besides, ive got everything automatically backing up to Google drive. So if I do have a failure, I just pop in another card and download.
