1Q 2013...thinking of getting a Droid Bionic

So I looked at pictures of the Nexus 7 and I can't tell the difference between that and my phone. Unless I'm missing something completely. Otherwise I'm still confused as to what kind of screen I get with a Webtop phone (Bionic) vs non-Webtop phone (Razr Maxx HD) when using Lapdock Pro 500. To me, they both look like a blown up screen?

I've got the lapdock and used to use it regularly but when it got upgraded to 3.0 I basically stopped using it. Yes, it's more stable but it doesn't operate like the desktop the older versions did.
Frankly a tablet UI using a mouse and keyboard sucks.

I was a huge fan of the lapdock and actually got four in the family about a year ago. Today I'd recommend against your course of action.

ummmm. you all don't seem to thinking about the big picture.

the bionic itself was discontinued 6 months ago. if that's what he really wants to buy.

in december i couldn't even buy a replacement battery from ANY verizon store. they were also discontinued

Well at this point it seems I will won't get it based on everything in this thread and get either the maxx or max HD. Just trying to understand what the diff is with lap dock pro 500.

Probably should post this in a droid max thread but have been getting good responses so far here

I doubt you'll be able to use the cool features of the lapdock 500 with the hd. It has a physical network port, a bigger screen, and a monitor out port.

What was your reasoning for wanting a lapdock again? There might be a better solution.

What I like is being able to store all my files and pics on one device/ phone and then being able to access them specifically excel files and being able to work on them with the lap dock. also like that I can have just one computer for stuff

I own a Bionic, my fianc?e owns a regular RAZR. These phones are exactly the same aside from the display, which has already been mentioned, and battery access. Can't take the battery out of the RAZR, whereas the back of the bionic pops right off. At first glance I preferred the screen of the RAZR, but when you really look at it the colors are slightly less realistic than the bionic's. However, it is much more vibrant IMO. The displays are preference, but having access to the battery on the bionic makes it win in this duel for me. Also, the extended battery smokes the razr's battery, and is honestly a MUST for the bionic (got mine for 20 bucks). Don't know much about the lap docks, but if your decision comes down to a regular RAZR or RAZR maxx, don't rule out the bionic. With the extended battery it comes close to the RAZR maxx battery, easily getting you through the day. It actually oulasts a maxx considering you can have your stock battery charged for backup.

With that said, both phones are great. Look at the specs and you'll see the RAZR is a sexier, skinnier bionic.

Have you ever used excel on your phone before? I've tried, both with google docs and other ways, and in my opinion it doesn't do very well. I wouldn't consider the lap dock a "computer." It just wasn't powerful enough yet. There was a reason moto discontinued the lap dock idea. It was a good idea, just not good enough yet. If money is no issue, if it were me I'd get a decent ultra book and use that for your computer functions. I bought one for school/work and that was when i stopped using my lap dock. And i do a lot of excel work. I sync my excel work to Microsoft skydrive, and if i need to edit something small i can access it on my phone or tablet. But the bulk of my work is done on a computer.

Bottom line, the lap dock was a novel idea, but probably ahead of its time. You'll be much happier with a laptop in the end. This is just my experience. Someone that uses their lap dock more than i might have a different opinion. Hope this helps.

It would be more helpful to explain your usage scenarios than to simply say "it sucks".
