1st android phone (samsung epic) any suggestions for best ROM?

I've tried syndicateromfrozen and bonsai. Both roms are great and snappy, but I find that bonsai is more stable and consistant. YMMV..

Hey everyone who bothers to read these new posts....I will be getting a samsung epic 4g this week and I have been researching several ROMs, but I haven't made up my mind on which would be best for me. Any suggestions? Thanks :D
Update - I'm running Bonsai now = very good ROM. For some odd reason I have not been able to get SyndicateROMFrozen to act right on my phone ( even after trying several different times - it's gotta be me or my phone messing up). I'm gonna try a couple more in next couple of days now that I'm getting the hang of things. I still REALLY wanna run that new upcoming ACE 2.0 as soon as it's out.

Update = I finally got SyndicateROMFrozen to work on my phone ! It's pretty cool , even added the Emotionless Beast Theme = very nice. But I am still going to jump right over to ACE 2.0 as soon as it's released ( very soon now :P )

SRF has been running flawlessly for me for 3 weeks now. improved performance and battery life, love this ROM.

Well I've decided I've ran syndicate enough that I'm going to give another ROM a trial run. I'm thinking trying midnight ROM next.

I've been running SRF / Baked Snack kernel for several weeks and have had no problems at all. I am also going to give ACE 2.0 a try soon as previous versions of ACE have been great as well. Can't go wrong either way.

i also had some minor issues w/ the syndicate frozen (quite possibly my fault since it was the first time i tried rooting my phone or flashing a rom), and have switched to ACE 2.0 (logging enabled, kernel twilight 1.1) since it's release. i have had no problems whatsoever since switching, have noticed improved battery life, and would recommend it to a friend. and as everyone else already stated; paul is the man (thx again!), this forum is excellent for any questions or problems (as well as just learning all you can about your new device), and the best way to find a rom that works for you is to try a few. as long as you follow all the steps correctly it's very easy to flash a different rom or go back to stock

Update = OK , I've finally gotten ACE 2.0 working fine on my phone after flashing the Twilight Zone v1.0.4 kernal (for some reason I kept getting freezes after installing ACE and Paul recommended trying the v1.0.4 instead of the v1.1.0 that it comes packaged with). This is a really good ROM. My personal ratings would be ... 1) ACE 2.0 , 2) Bonsai 4.0 and 3) SyndicateROMFrozen

One plus for me so far with ACE ROM is the lock screen info. I kind of like that is shows date, time, battery level and next alarm clock time. Also the side slide unlock and side slide silent mode toggle is nice. Is this lock screen stuff specific to the ROM? Or is it an addon of some kind that can be installed for any ROM? For example the app widget picker: midnight ROM extras has the apk for it so that the apps with multiple widgets are only one listing in the main list and bring up a sublist to show all of the options. I like that when I had syndicate ROM and so I used CWM to install the apk to have it with ACE ROM. I'm guessing that we can simply customize all sorts of stuff beyond the core customization of the ROM by doing similar things. That was one of the things that midnight ROM stood out to me was the base package is bare bones and you have the option to, as it is called, "build your own ROM". It appears though really you can do this with any ROM I guess. I uninstalled a few things that were packaged into ACE and am going to add some stuff to it using the midnight ROM extras zip. Some of that stuff I want to find out the significance of since I'm assuming they are different that stock things of other devices: for example the fascinate xxxxx apps. There might even be other packages from other ROMs that can be installed on other ROMs that I probably am not aware can be installed.

I flashed ACE 2.0. I was getting nasty freezes until I flashed Twilight Zone 1.0.4.

I'm still having trouble restoring my apps from MyBackup Pro, even after changing the kernel to 1.0.4. It just gets to 1% for Adobe Reader and stops dead. I don't know if that's a problem with MyBackup Pro or the rom/kernel. I can re-download the apps and re-login for those apps requiring logins, but that's pretty annoying. It's probably worth it, though.

Try using AppMonster Pro instead and also remember to select "from market" instead of from "SD card" when re-installing your apps no matter which program you use
