Another user with edge notification problems

I received a refurbished S21 last week and have been trying to make the edge notifications work with no luck. Have read a lot of posts and watched a lot of videos, did the tweaks suggested, made sure everything is set up correctly in the notifications settings (Brief selected etc) but no luck. Very frustrating. I need some visual cue that a text or email has come in because I'm not on my phone all the time like a lot of folks to see these things as they come in. So, is there anything new on this? Has Samsung pushed out updates that are causing this? I keep thinking that somewhere there is a setting that needs to be toggled correctly but I haven't found it. Thanks for any help.
