2.1 running slow?!

i did the update from 1.5 to the official Sprint/HTC 2.1 when it came out and restored my backed up items (via Mybackup), but now everything seems so slow. It takes up to a minute to get into a text message and even as much as 5 mins to see one. Calls? Don't even ask. If I go into my call log and decide to call someone, it takes forever to connect. I can it the power button to lock the down and it still is registering the call during that time. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any suggestions? I so close to doing a factory data reset (even though I don't think it will do anything). Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Try this, you don't need root to do it. With the SDK installed, navigate in command prompt/terminal to the sdk folder (cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools, cd android-sdk-mac_86/tools or cd android-sdk-linux_86/tools) and then access the shell (adb shell (win), ./adb shell (mac), sudo ./adb shell (linux)) then type:

top -m 5 -n 1
you will see the top 5 things draining your battery, with top (the command prompted) being one of them. You can kill a process this way by then typing:
kill -9 XXX (where xxx is the PID listed for the process taking up valuable processing power).

by the look of it i don't have much. I have my taskkiller (advanced) top, sys_server, com.htc.android.iqagent, and \system\bin\akmd. thanks for your help!!

its only going to display 5 (hence the -5). It'll show the percentage of how much its taking up. they should all be minimal.

i see. thank you again for your help. but it is still running very slow. i know my last resort is to reinstall 2.1. do you happen to have any other suggestions?

i'm not sure if this is true for everyone else, but my texts also take long to load and i get the force close or wait dialog box when my texts load.

Unfortunately, not much you can do. You can go through the apps individually and clear the caches and see if that helps. Root users can get cachemate to do the lazy steps for them :)

i did a factory data reset to i hope that it works out. i did some test text messaging and some test calls and the phone seemed to respond rather quickly, so i hope that this works out. i am in the process of restoring my data. i will post results once that is done.

i too have had a lot of lag issues with this new update. Even after a stock reset and sd card format. apps i use such as choice dialer, ak notepad, or just the camera, always force close. It also just randomly will show the HTC screen and reload my entire desktop. The phone app will also crash, or freeze for 30-60 seconds before placing a call. Facebook dosn't sync, and closes when i try to link a contact. Is anyone else having similar issues?

Thats not good. Take it into a Sprint store if you can and show them, they should exchange it.

Yeah the lag with the update is terrible, thank god I have an EVO coming on the 4th. Hell there's at least a 1 min lag after ending a phone call before you can really use the phone again.

I'm beginning to think the Hero hardware isn't very well suited to 2.1

i don't think that its the hardware because there isn't much of this happening in the "leaked" 2.1. well i do have some news. after the factory reset. it seems to be much snappier. but, it loaded all my facebook contacts and the main clock/weather htc widget doesn't load the weather at all. just says my location. other than that, it seems smooth. i too also got the contact mess up, but got that taken care off in about 10 mins.

Its running fine on a custom ROM. Sprint/HTC just f'ed up and released something that looks like a 2 year old threw together, then they polished it with the same stuff you would polish a turd with.

hahaha. well to be honest before i did the factory reset, i said to myself, "Man, i miss 1.5." it felt more stable. i haven't rooted my phone (in hindsight, i wish i did), but 1.5 ran better than 2.1.
