2.2.1 Update Discussion

Just got the update this morning and noticed that Maps has been using a lot of battery power.

I was on GPS for half hour which only uses about 10% battery, but instead Maps has used 40%. Also, my Maps still looks like before...haven't noticed anything different.

I am rooted and got update notification last night. When I hit update, it went into install mode and then frozen for a while. I have to re power off to use the phone. Now I do not see that update notification. Where I can find the updated file. If some one has it please post the link for it.

I LOVE THIS UPDATE. One reason, no more home screen draw delays.

They messed it up on the last update, about 5-10 times a day, when leaving an app I would be looking at a blank homescreen for about 4-5 seconds.

Not the case now, its instant and super snappy! Love it!

Update on my battery:

It's nearing the end of the day and my battery is completely drained. I will try doing a complete uninstall of Maps and then reinstall it and see if it fixes the problem.

Same here - I was getting really frustrated staring at the blank home screen whenever I exited out of an app, but this update looks to have fixed that! Very exciting!

Just what I was looking for!

Same Here! Waiting for the Home screen (Launcher Pro OR stock) was PAINFUL and Frustrating as all Heck! I changed the way I navigated the UI just to avoid that dreaded delay. Even without the other improvements just taking care of that makes this the most welcome update since the first Froyo!
Thank you Google, Motorola...et al! This old OG Droid keeps getting new life! now I dont have to scour ebay for and X or D2. Kudos!

Is there a simple 1 touch root for droid1 2.2.1 FRG83? All I would like to be able to do is wireless tether for my iPad

New bee would like help w/rooting 2.2.1 FRG 83D

Thank you.

I got the update overnight and loaded it when I woke up. I agree that the interface is much snappier. But my Swype stopped working. I can only hunt and peck. When I run my finger across the keys it creates the red line but doesn't produce any words. Have you had this experience? Do you have a work around? BTW, I am on a Droid OG, stock, and I have done the December Swype update already.

I got it figured out. I uninstalled Swype and reinstalled it. Now it works as normal. So far I like the update. It runs smoothly.

Installed new update last night (DX). I've now experienced three random reboots. Phone screen just goes black and then a couple of seconds later the red Droid emblem is displayed and phone boots back up. Never had this happen previously, at all, so three times within 12 hours of the update being installed seems to point to it being something not playing nice after the update. Anyone else experiencing this type of problem?

Has anyone seen an upgrade to google maps going to vector loading in this new update?

Gene H. Why the hell are you asking about rooting? O/T much?

Anyhow I'm still experiancing Home screen delay when I close the keyboard. Up to 13secs.

Installed last night, and so far so good. I haven't played around too much, so we shall see. But then again i didn't have problems before really.

This happened to me once today, but that's all.

After the update, I got a notification to allow "Google Location Services" to anonymously track my location. I disallowed it. How will this affect me?

I'm wondering if it's from the update or something else because nobody has mentioned it yet.

Same here, much smother. I opened SetCPU and it says its clocked stock at 600MHZ, wasn't it at 500MHZ or 550MHZ on 2.2? (I dont have root and i didnt overclock)

Got the update notification, but it failed to install the first time. Now i'm not getting the notification to update again, even if i try to force it through settings - about - system updates.
Anyone know how to force it to check for the update again? Or, does anyone know where to find the update that I assume it has already downloaded?
