Hoping one of the improvements with Froyo would be "battery life"
Not So Much.

Battery life seems to be much worse and phone and batery seem unusually hot.
Co workers of mine who have the Droid and Froyo agreed today that battery life with this build is awful.
At first I thought it was just because I was using it more today then normal and then I watched it go from 50% down to 5% in a half hour.... just on standby!

Whiskey Tango..........?

Yeah. I definitely have to agree with you there.

I feel like my phone next to the camera gets a lot warmer than before (like if I am playing a graphics intensive game) and I usually get home with like 50 to 60% of battery after a full day and now I'm at like 15%. It might be a combination of playing with the phone more but my screen now sucks up like 60% of my battery usage and the screen is only set to like 30% brightness.

Mine is horrible too! After only some texting and emailing and a phone call, I was at 30% around 1PM. The phone had only been on for a few hours. Brightness claimed to have taken all the battery but I have it all the way down to like 15%. What gives?

might be alot of caching with the new os give it a day or 2 to catch up and see if things change

fwiw, I have not experienced battery degradation on froyo unless using an overclocked rom. The warmer droid experience should be expected when some froyo features push the droid's on-the-verge of being outdated hardware to the max.

Stock Droid here and I experienced horrible battery life. I was down to 60% by lunch time. I'm usually still at 90%. Experiencing some other minor issues as well. Kinda wish I wasn't impatient and waited for the official OTA.

Pushed the update. Battery life is fine for me. I think the radio maybe better buts its to soon to tell.
You have something not playing nice or doesn't run on 2.2. uninstall it or reset the phone and reinstall 1 at a time and that should talk care of it. Pretty much the same scenario for the last 8 years with smart(sh) phones

Don't know what I'm doing right, but battery life with 2.2 is just fine on my Droid as well.

My battery life is pretty terrible, and it does get very hot. My biggest problem, however, is that my Gmail is no longer getting pushed! I really hope the new build rumoured to be coming will fix these issues.

I haven't had any battery issues since the update and I've used my phone pretty regularly just as I did before the update.

I would have to agree with one of the previous posters about a program that isn't working right under 2.2. I used to have beautiful widgets installed and man that thing drained my battery like crazy, after a couple of days of constantly having my battery drained I uninstalled it and voila, back to normal. It just sucks because I paid for the app and its really nice but way too buggy.

I've used Beuatiful Widgets for months now with no problems. It is very informative in the settings as to which settings are battery-hungry (i.e. Force GPS for geolocation, update interval, animations, etc). Just turn them off and you won't have a problem.

For what it's worth I saw a few posts about how battery life was an issue after Froyo. After removing the Task Killer they had installed, they mentioned battery life was considerably better.

Don't know if this would help but I'm throwing it out there.

After updating yesterday my battery seemed to die very quickly. I plugged it in and after charging all night, it was only back up to 60% and the back was very hot. I turned the data connection off completely and kept it charging for less than an hour and it had jumped to 80% and was cool again. After playing with it more I noticed the data icon showed it was almost constantly transmitting and receiving something. I have since narrowed it down to Exchange push email. If I turn push off on my account it seems to go back to normal. I have factory reset and this does not take care of the problem. There is a page about this on code.google.com where they seem to have resolved it. I checked my email log and it shows the exact same thing as the example on the page where the phone is pinging the server every second or multiple times a second.

code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9718

Hopefully we will see this update included in the FRG22 build.

Might want to check if you have Exchange mailboxes and see if this is your problem as well.

Could it be that most of you are using it more to find cool and new things in 2.2? Obviously if you use the phone for longer periods, its going to get hot and battery will last less.

This is called the Wow factor.

If you havent received the FroYo update yet, i'd recommend using Skyfire browser cause it has Flash support and uses much less battery power.

I used Task Killer prior to Froyo. After uninstalling it, I've seen some improvement in performance and battery life. I have not had problems with exchange though. The battery held up a lot better today almost Eclair length. I'm not going to use Task Killer anymore as it seems to have helped my phone as of late by not using it.
