2.2 = Horrible battery life

Haha, trust me I caught it already. I love learning everything I have accessible to me within these forums and I'm very fond of paying it forward and helping people out whenever I can!

On a side note: The Battery Calibration app is actually for ROOTED users as I was led to believe it wasn't. Just downloaded and installed from market and you must have rooted your phone in order to use. So I think a little clean up is in order for this thread.

Thank for catching that Fear and my bad everyone I was having major insomnia last night as I was typing out my post and somehow i thought so too. It requires 2.1+root but the app has a sound notification option when it hits exactly 100% for those who hate playing the waiting game by looking at the screen. I found this app through XDA heres the link.

Hey no problem man! I know what you mean with the insomnia, that's the story of my life! Seems in order to wipe battery stats in any way shape or form the user is going to need to have rooted their phone. I'm finding nothing whatsoever for unrooted users to do this :(

Update: I'm back to about normal if not better than normal on 2.1.

I turned off a bunch of sounds when things are pressed and stuff and disabled wifi when not in use. I left GPS on because I use it alot. Data roaming is on (but I get pretty good service here) in the notification panel the only things have turned off are WiFi and Bluetooth. Which I turn on when I need em.

I think it was probably wifi. But, something in me feels that it just needed a few days of use and a few charges and it's back to normal. I can't remember all of my setting changes. But, I'm going to at least turn the wifi back on and give it a good days use to see.

I use my fascinate a lot, and since no smartphone will last 24 hours with heavy use on a single battery, so I went into Verizon and got one of the extra batteries w/ the charging station.
I usually wait until the thing is around 5-10%, then I do the old switcheroo, and put the old battery on the charger.
Is this okay for overall battery performance, or am I confusing my phone?

Same setup I have. I usually switch batteries around 30-40%. I also charge the phone at night along with the extra battery, start everyday with everything charged.

Yeah, the extra battery is a good investment if you're really active or if you travel a lot. I'm only wondering if there are any detrimental side effects of removing a spent batt, and replacing it with a fully charged batt (referring to the phone's battery stats). Not that I'll stop what I'm doing, I just don't know enough about this process to consider otherwise.

Thats the same thing im doing with the battery swap around 40 percent that charging station and extra OEM battery is very handy. Personally I dont do the battery swap after i wipe battery stats, I let it drain to 5% from a full charge and then recharge it back up to 100% on the same battery. Then after that I switch off when the calibration is done.

EDIT: You might have to do a couple charge/recharge cycles (2-3 days) on the same battery even after wiping stats, draining down to 5%, recharge back up to 100%. Then when its completely calibrated you can swap out batteries.

My wife's Fascinate also has horrific battery life after Froyo.

She uses wifi constantly, but GPS is turned off. Her phone won't last more than 6-8 hours max. I tried the battery charge/recharge cycles and it has been almost a week with no improvement.

It's not rooted/etc (she won't let me touch her phone :) ) So those options aren't available to me. I'm going to try a factory reset soon, but she is slow in figuring out what apps she wants to keep.

factory reset helped me. also turn down brightness settings.

I was going to try a factory reset as well. I've turned off GPS and Wi-Fi and that has helped. But before the update I'd get great battery life. I would pull it off the charger at 8:00 AM, and be able to go all day/night and still have about 60% or so at bed time. Not it will be down to under 20%.

Actually, looking at my phone now after turning off wi-fi this morning, I'm still at 91%. So much improved with wi-fi off, but I prefer to keep it on when at home. Maybe it's a bug and will be fixed in a maintenance release.

Honestly I don't think this is a bug. I've yet to see an Android powered phone that achieves great battery life for a day or more of average to heavy use. I think the central problem is that the battery management is not tied into the Android OS itself. As these phones have gotten more powerful and funtional Google and the hardware vendors have basically used off the shelf components to make phones. That isn't necessarily a bad thing it's just the economics of doing business on this scale. But... and this is a big but... That other company, let's call them brand x... They make battery life a central focus on every wireless product they have (of which I own a few) and it shows. No out of the box modifications necessary and battery life smokes ANY Android phone I've used or seen or know of. That too is a fact. My wife's phone, that she got after a terrible experience with the Fascinate, just leaves mine in the dust and asks for seconds after HEAVY use for a day and a half between charges.

The battery calibration app is for UNROOTED users :)

Edit: Disregard the statement about that app being for unrooted users as I was mistaken, you must be ROOTED in order to use. As of right now I am unsure of an application that can wipe your battery stats without being rooted. I will keep an eye out tho.

I would like to know which battery calibration app you are speaking of because two of the ones I downloaded require my device to be rooted, which it's not.

Sorry, if you read the edit part of that post you will see that I said disregard that statement as the apps require you to be rooted. As of right now I know of no way to wipe battery stats/calibrate the battery without being rooted.

I just put together a thread that may help you out - http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate/80714-simple-steps-help-improve-battery-life.html

My wife is experiencing the same issues with her fascinate. She used it mildly each day, only checking for e-mails 2-3 times a day, hardly taking any calls, updating stocks at around 7pm and turning her phone off while she slept. So it would generally be on from 8:30am until 11:30pm and she swears she only charged it once every 3-4 days. While I think that is a stretch, it never died on her in the middle of the day. After the update, the phone died after 10 hours the first day. I did a few recharge cycles to improve the life and now it will go one full day of 8am-11pm, but its 5pm now 2nd day and its at 8% left.

Maybe it lasted at least 3 days before but now its no more than 1 1/2 days which is a drastic drop off. She always had wifi/3d on before, never turning them off. Now I gotta figure out how to reflash back to before the update so she can have that back. Tired of hearing her complain about 2 days battery life(my dINC has never had more than 16 good hours and I dont bark).

Wife's Froyo...hmm...I see a pattern

Hmm... My wife's fascinate also. third "wife's Fascinate" in this thread with the same issue. My wife's heats up now, so something must be running to cause the drain. Dies in about six hours with email and maybe some words with friends. Rebooted it yesterday and put it in my pocket. Didn't start any apps. Was very warm when it died an hour later (was at about 15% after last reboot). Unrooted, stock Froyo.

dude. same way...wife's fascinate. i wonder if she will let me root it. maybe i should do it while she sleeps..i could get some husband points in the plus or minus column, depending on its outcome. my X is awesome with its GB on...but if mama aint happy, aint nobody happy.

I was getting horrible battery life after upgrading to 2.2. My battery would be at about 40% with light use by the time I got home from work. I could usually count on around 75 - 80% battery life by that time when I was running 2.1

I decided to do a factory reset. Then, as suggested by others, I checked my Wi-Fi sleep policy setting and found that it had defaulted to "Never" when I upgraded to 2.2. I then changed it to sleep "when screen turns off".

Settings/Wireless & network/Wi-Fi Settings/Advanced/Wi-Fi sleep policy

I am happy to report that my battery life is back, and better than before. Now, I have about 80 - 90% of my battery life left at the end of the day.

Brilliant. I wish I'd read this thread earlier. That completely explains my lousy battery life after 2.2. It is back to normal now.

Hey thanks a ton for that information! That should certainly help!

Will changing this setting affect battery life even if WiFi is kept turned off?
