2.2

let's play a game. Which developer do you thing will release the 1st solid (not perfect but stable) 2.2 rom for the droid?

im going with Cyanogen/Koushe seeing as how cyanogen works mostly with the N1 now and Koush could port it

i'm with you on that one, my bet is that either Koush or Pete will be the first one(s) to push out a 2.2 ROM. I can't wait I hope that devs can build a ROM from the Nexus One 2.2 source for the Droid

they can, it was done with the original 2.1 release but it might take some time. im sure there will be a build by the end of this week but by? and is it stable? are 2 questions you gonna want to ask. if it isn't stable it will most likely not be worth updating.

oh and Borgey i see you got banned from droidforums, good job haha. i can't stand their dictatorship rule they use on their forum. they try keep the forum organized by use of threats and ridicule. They are over-populated and run it like it is a communism, they are the China of the android communities.

one thing Borgey, i don't want to bring that war in here but Pete did put together the file that lets you have root access on 2.1. I had to root it that way when i unrooted a month ago. He took the official 2.1 build and edited it so that it had root in it. This way once you flashed the SPRecovery using rsdlite you would be able to load the rom with root access. though i forget if it is through a nandroid back up. i just wanted you to know for future reference in case for some reason you have to root from 2.1.

i got it booted but have to try and replace libs and other things to get it workable man im having fun now but i know others will get it working prior to me

Well now that 2.2 is official for the N1, its just a matter of time before it comes to the Droid.......weeks?

I'll go back to stock for 2.2 and then I'll go rooted again once a 2.2 BB ROM is up.

Why would you go back to stock and how do you know you will be able to get root back on 2.2 just as I've said before stay rooted the day its released if not before their will be a rooted 2.2 Rom floating around

Pretty sure root will be out for it just like new jailbreaks are released on every newly released iPhone OS.

When it becomes official, I'm going back to stock until BB gets a 2.2 ROM.

out of curiousity, how long have you had an android phone? i see you haven't made many posts here (which could be just new here but not new to android). From what i know of there will always be a way to root but it is never guaranteed to be somthing easy (ex. 2.0.1 you were able to use droidmodupdater which was a cake walk with little risk. with 2.1 you needed to use rsdlite, which was easy but a higher risk of bricking your phone). not saying that you are wrong but im just curious to know how much experience you have with android to come to that conclusion.

but the whole thing is why. go back to stock. when you could wait max a day for a rooted 2.2 rom and never loose root or deal with the headache of rerooting. and the rom will most likely be just like stock with su and custom recovery

I'm going to have to agree with bizz. Especially since the official release will probably leak a week or prior to when verizonvsends it out. There really isn't a point to unroot. I guess of it means that much to then go for it but just keep in mind that it could take a while to root especially since a lot of the Droid hackers are slowly moving to newer phones.

Got any evidence to support this? As far as I know, all of the same developers are still making ROMs for the Droid. I have yet to see anything on the Incredible.

Besides, if developers stop making ROMs for the Droid then that'll be the day I go back to stock for good.

im not saying they will stop making roms for the droid and i also did not mean that there is not a chance for 2.2 root. all i am saying is that devs are slowly moving on to newer phones. espcially the shadow if it is as good as it seems to be and i would assume the Evo will take up some share.

as for proof, i dont have physical proof, just rumors going around. (ex. jake and boost might be going to dev for incredible) these arent facts but just speculation.

all i am saying is that by unrooting you are risking the ability to root in the future. but again, i am not saying it is a definite but is still a risk.

dude you can do whatever you want whether you root, unroot, or even get a new phone. it is not going to affect me because i will still have root and when a 2.2 rom comes out, ill use it. all i am trying to do (and i think bizz is too) is to try to at least inform you of the risk. you do not have to listen to us but just keep it in mind.

I recently switched from DMUpdater to ROM Manager and have been experimenting with different ROMS. Currently using BB oc 800. I was wondering if anybody using ROM Manager knows how fast they update new ROMs. So if 2.2 was to released and Developers built a new ROM the next day, when would it show up in ROM Manager for download? Would I be able to check for ROM Update and get it or since it's 2.2 would I have to download it as a new rom and reinstall?

With everything that's being shown now about 2.2 on the Droid(or lack of), it looks all too familiar. kinda looks like RIM. touting this release as something big and bold.

Totally disappointed. 2,2 is looking to be just a lil speed boost and a couple of new kinks to use more then 1 account.

What exactly do you want it to be? You want them to make your phone an extension of your body? Internal implants so you never need to own another cellphone again? Maybe with 2.3 they can turn you into an Android.

I don't understand what you expected from it. No one led anyone to believe it would be anything life-changing so I don't see how you could be disappointed with an update that's free.

Well let's say it like this Jake rooted the incredible and is making a kernel for it boost is waiting for his to make dom 4.0 but Jake is still making kernels and. Is working on 2.2 and a kernel for it. Who knows of all the devs will leave the Droid I doubt it but with the shadow and Droid 2 you may see a slow down

Oh and BTW p3 has shown pics of froyo on the Droid and its not a port its MOTO built. But I doubt he will release it hope I'm wrong

I se moto has started with vague Facebook status updates about software updates. Again. This is going to be 2.1 all over again. I wish they just didn't say anything until release.

The only reason I rooted in the first place was to overclock but my Droid has been at stock speed ever since before 2.1 officially rolled out.

So now that I don't need to overclock anymore, I'm okay with stock 2.2. I wouldn't mind being rooted on it but it's always safer to be on stock anyways.

To each his/her own.

ok, we get it. your unrooting for the 2.2 release.

on a side now...

does anybody have a feeling that this update is coming soon. with all of the publicity as well as some leaked info here and there. i know some of it is probably rumors but this time around it seems to a little more together.
