2.2

Most likely the SDK version of it that is really REALLY ****ty and barely runs. Nice try though. Oh and just a btw Motorola would be the one getting it not Verizon as Motorola compiles the OS using their drivers and closed source google apps then pushes it to V for testing. So you are full of ****.

Lol okay fine. You can believe what you want. His name is Black_mannX on twitter (or something like that). He works for Verizon and has proven time and time again to be reliable, both in Android and Blackberry aspects.

And you obviously have no idea how testing works. Motorola gets it first and THEN sends it to Verizon who then pushes it out to the end-user. You kind of answered that in your post lol

Nah nah nah nah!

I have no reason to lie about this lol

Here are some of his tweets:

"Good Morning. Happy Friday to all.. just got a test build of froyo on the Droid 1.. jit for the win."

"for those That asked. Droid runs very fast. Almost feels Like a snapdragon level of speed. Now I need a build for the incredible"

Very exciting :D

Just downloaded ROM Manager Premium. Got tired of loading ROMs the old way and it's a lot faster doing it through ROM Manager now. Rooting FTW! I'll definitely wait until CM/BB release 2.2 ROMs. For now, I'll enjoy CM 5.0.7.1.

Im assuming you changed your mind.

they really screwed up the 2.1 release, almost nothing got changed...

Minus the Voice to text, live wall paper, yahoo mail support, M-T stock in the browser, 3D gallery, the ability to use 2.1 programs (Google earth being one), and a slew of other minor enhancements.

test versions of Android 2.2 are out there for partners of Google. The links are very hard, and in the ROM's are codes that are specific to the people they are given to, which is why we have not seen a leak. My understanding is that it works pretty well as of now, and we will all be very happy when it releases.

If you bought the droid only because you hoped it would get updates then you bought it for the wrong reasons. Its nice that it gets updates but you should never buy something with the hope of what it might get. I bought it because I liked what it had to offer when I bought it. I could live without updates though I do hope we continue to get them.

Here are some words of advice for the select few here. If you aren't 100% happy with the device you are planning on getting then don't buy it and wait till there is something you are satisfied with. Never, and I mean never, buy something that youbare dependent on upgrades because you will never be guaranteed them.

Though you could always root your device and load a rom to get the features you looking for, but that always depends on if you want to take the risk. I've rooted and never looked back.

I rooted my Droid a little while ago. I loved it! I thought it was the greatest thing that ever happened to mobile phones. But the I started having serious problems with the phone, and actually had to get 2 replacements. So I've not rooted since the latest replacement. I don't know what happened really, but it just didn't work. I'm sure I'll try it again someday though.

fwiw, the rooting itself would have 0% impact on the phone having problems (unless of course you screw it up while attempting to root OR screw it up with the powers of root :) )

Just an fyi for those that might be deterred to try.

What exactly went wrong? If there were hardware failures, I would seriously doubt it would be from rooting.

Lets pick your post apart since you don't read:

Never heard of him and that is saying something since I tend to keep up around the dev and leaker community.

I've come to the conclusion that you don't read... This is EXACTLY what I said... So saying I have no idea how testing and development works is total bull****.

Nah nah nah nah!

What are you, five?

I have no reason to lie about this lol

Yes actually you do... To try to look like you "know" people and are some sort of internet showoff/badass... Well you have proven that you know **** and act like a five year old so good luck with that.

Anyone can tweet... In fact I just tweeted that I got a test build of android 10... It turns water into wine and prints money...

Because tweeting means its real... Right?

I don't want to get off topic, but I never thought I wasn't at least a little to blame. Although I don't really know what it is that I did. I think there were some hardware issues that came up after I OC'd it. I only OC'd to 800, and 1.0 for like 2 days at one point. I'm sure if there were a culprit it would be there. I will most likely root again at some point, just as soon as I see something I like enough to go back to 2.01 and root again.

OOooook, we need to cool it.

Everyone calm down, and be nice.

And lets get this back on topic

Lest we have the thread closed

Jeatin, You could have left out all the insults and still have made your point. Please consider that in the future.

Cory

P.S. - if I have to step in to this thread one more time and tell people to act like adults, I'll start handing out infractions.

Yes I COULD have but I chose not to :).

I really can't wait until Froyo source is released. Will be nice to have something to play with again and to see what cyanogenmod comes up with and discovers. :)

ok out of curiousity is Jeatin (aka ikithme) the guys from droid life? i remember a thread in here showing a way to unroot or unbrick your device and it was also link in one of the droid life blogs. seeing as how i have never come accross an android block that linked to this forum it just made me curious.

back to topic. all in all the droid will get 2.2 and there is no doubt about it. hell, look at the fuss that the samsung behold users have made because they arent getting the 2.0 upgrade. the droid probably sold 10 X's as many as the behold, and if verizon did not make sure take care of these customer's then they would probably have a huge backlash especially because we all know the droid is capable. now is it going to be the same release as the N1 got or will it be watered down, that is a question that will be answered soon enough (im sure of it).

like i have said multiple times, there are a few things that you can do in order get through this. here they are

a) root your device and load a 2.2 rom (when it is available) and be able to get 2.2 to its fullest experience.

b) wait it out until there is an official release. it couldn't be too far away from the way things seem to be going.

or (and this is only if A and B aren't good enough for you)

c) stop complaining. if you dont want to give rooting a shot and the wait seems to long for you then there is nothing that can be done about your problem. we are lucky to still be getting updates like we do. most phone companies could care less about their previous customers and only look forward. and to top it off Motorola is releasing 2 new android phones soon and the fact that we are still a priority to them is really good.

think about it this way, if you just bought a really nice 42 inch lcd tv with 1080 p resolution and that company releases a whole new line of tv's that are 3d capable, are they going to replace your tv just because you want it 3d capable? probably not.

this is not in anyway a rant or trying to put anybody down. i just want people to be aware the options they have available. you bought the droid for what it was, not what it could be.

also seeing as the droid has not been replaced yet, you could always try to sell it on ebay and get a few hundred for it and get a new phone. it all comes down to what option you want/plan to take.

everybody cheer up and enjoy your phone.

im coming from a blackberry storm (im sure most of you here are too haha). im just happy i am getting significant improvements when i get upgrades and i have almost forgot about the idea of having to pull the battery in order to free up memory haha. this is the first phone im actually satisfied with and even though it's 7-8 months old, i still love it.
