2/24 at Best Buy

So with A/C reporting the Thunderbolt will be released on 2/24, it seems unlikely that the XOOM would be also released that day perhaps. Maybe we'll hear a release date announce at MWC event next week? Ahh, why not, I'll be optimistic :)

The thunderbolt is just another phone. Why would this release date effect the release date of a tablet?

Because stores want to make the most out of each release. A new release draws people into the store who often make impulse purchases as well. I'm sure Best Buy and Verizon see the target population for Thunderbolt and XOOM as nearly the same. Demographically, they are the same population. A typical marketing scenario, targeting the same population, would separate "events" by at least a week.

That said, realize that Motorola and Google are extremely anxious to get the XOOM into the market. Additionally, the target population is almost assured to have "new release burnout", for lack of a better term, due to all the phones and tabs coming. So typical marketing practices may go right out the window. I certainly hope so.

With the 17th and 24th coming up and still no word about the Xoom I'm starting to wonder if it will come out this month. Then again it could be announced this weekend but I can't imagine they wouldn't want to get this announced sooner to get the word out.

This is my thought and why I don't think "just another phone" release will effect the supposed new "gotta-have" tablet.

New XOOM ad from Costco has been found, offering a $35 rebate to it's members. No word about price or release date.

But with more ads being discovered, there is bound to be good news soon.

They have to say something during the Mobile World Conference. They just have to!

I personally don't think the Thunderbolt release date would effect the Xoom either. Honestly, they'll probably have a functioning Xoom on display, so why not let the Thunderbolt buyers play with it for a little bit? Seems completely logical to me.

Certainly whoever leaked that flyer could have done a little more digging to find out when and how much.

Confirmed: Best Buy needs your extra $20 to pay someone to check adds before print. Im still getting it as its lighting fast for only $799.

I'm really hoping to not shell out $20 just to get Wifi going. In a way I want to take a chance, bring it home and see what we can force down the throat of this thing.

I also don't want some pre-loaded best buy wifi stopper app or however else they'd tried to block it.

I hope to find whatever it is that will make that happen, knock on wood, cross my fingers, throw salt over my shoulder and hope z4root or rageagainstthecage can get me a temp root to remove it.

There isn't going to be any bloatware - it's a Google Experience device. The "WiFi unlocking" is just a poor way of saying the device will have to be activated before leaving the store - i.e. a one month data subscription will have to be paid for.

When you're talking about a device pushing $1000 to get out of the store, what's another $20?

For those of us that really want this thing, we'll pay. Before long LG will be out, Toshiba will be out, etc, etc, etc... and watch the price drop and everyone else can be happy.

For me... the premium is worth paying because I want to so badly.

Of course, I'll need to off the forum by the time the price drops because I'll want to avoid any reference to how much premium I foolishly shelled out. ;-)

I will get this thing when I can get it for $600 without any need to buy a data plan to get WiFi going. I am guessing I will be waiting until around the end of May. Not that I can't aford it but I refuse to support this price for a tablet.

A stab at clairvoyance:

My prediction is a fully equipped XOOM for $699 by Memorial Day. It might get down to $649 by Labor Day, but Mot is probably going to keep it's fully equipped flagship solidly in the $600's, while fleshing out the family with lower cost, less equipped models.

I would probably grab one at $649.99, but who knows what other Honeycomb tablets will be on the horizon come May. A croweded marketplace is what I am banking on. A solid 4 quality manufacturers with 2 or 3 models each by the end of summer will have prices solidly where I want them.

I am just so happy that I cannot understand this attitude. "I want it so badly i'm willing to throw stupid amounts of money at it even if it will and should be cheaper."

Sigh, I guess this is why they get away with it.

Its not stupid. Only a bit more than the ipad and its better. It's like car shopping. Your going to pay more for a better brand with all the top options. And on waiting for the price to drop it will be a few months. Also heard some stuff the bb price is wrong and it will be cheaper. Who knows. Just take my money now and give me my stuff.

It's not like this thing will be given away for free in 90 days. IMHO, the price won't drop more than $100 and that won't be until around Memorial Day. When did spending an extra C-note become "stupid amounts of money"? That's not even enough to take my wife to a steak house. Let me rephrase:

I want it enough that I don't mind spending $100 (about $1/day) not to wait for a price reduction.

Haha. Well the iPad 2 at $729 is going to kill it! I'd love this thing to be $700 :)

Honestly, I really don't think the ipad 2 is going to be that big of a jump from the first ipad. I think it will be thinner, lighter, smaller bezel frame maybe a new ios with a few new features. I feel safe saying it will have the exact same display as the first ipad there is too much talk about how the retina is "impossible" to work into the ipads pardon my french ******ed aspect ratio. There will be no hdmi out or sd card but maaaaybe a usb port. I'm a power user and android is the best platform for my needs. My wife and I will be getting a xoom on launch day from best buy and can't wait. I think my wife is more excited than me she keeps asking when we can preorder it Haha. Anyway the xoom is a premium device at a premium price and personnaly I think its worth it and i feel it is setting a solid hardware and software benchmark for future android tablets to compare to.
