I'm still on 2.3.1 on my fresh Nexus, am I correct that this manually update will not work for me? I've tried About Phone - System Update to check for 2.3.3 with no luck.

For some reason going to the system update will work. You can wait for the update to be pushed to your phone or you can update manually but from what I understand I think you have to update to 2.3.2 then 2.3.3 then 2.3.4. I might be mistaken though.

Rooted and running 2.3.3 trying to install 2.3.4
I have searched all over google and can not find a solution to my problem.

* auto update 2.3.4 and that failed
* manually installing 2.3.4 and that failed
* Tried installing the stock 2.3.3 rom again and that failed

When I say failed I mean "error code 7" and the install aborts.

help please!

What?! Sue Google? I sure hope I'm missing some sarcasm in there somewhere.....

This update does nothing more than patch a few files; it does nothing to the USB storage. This is a hardware failure that a call to Samsung for repair, most likely under warranty, will fix. Seriously...if the update did anything to damage the storage, it would be all over this site and other Android sites.

Put the lawyers' number away for pete's sake.
