2 Gripes with this phone. Coming from S9+...going to S10

I am coming from a S9+ and going to a S10 and was looking forward to a slightly smaller phone in general as well as the various upgrades via my Jump on Demand. I have 2 main gripes and I was wondering if anyone else agreed:

1) The fingerprint reader is noticeably slower than the one on the S9+. With my old phone, I'd touch it and my phone was unlocked and ready to go. With this one, I press, wait a second or two, then it's unlocked. It might seem petty, but waiting that time has me seriously considering returning the phone. The other option is to use smart lock, but i don't want to compromise my phones security because of a design flaw.

2) This one bothers me the most...The phone just feels cheap compared to my S9+. My old phone had cold metal around the sides. It felt heavy and sturdy like there were quality build materials used. This s10 feels cheap. I have read that the sides are aluminum (just like the s9+ apparently) but I call BS on that. It feels and sounds like plastic. The phone is significantly lighter as well. It just feels like a toy. I'm not paying $900 for plastic. Does anyone else think the sides are plastic feeling and the phone just feels cheap?

Not at all . It feels very good in the hand to hold. It's all still the same material as the S9 plus. Watch the video done by Jerryrige everything on the build quality.

I'll take a look. I would be amazed if it's the same build quality. I legit thought that perhaps, somehow, samsung put a S10e in my s10 box. This thing feels like a toy. sounds like plastic, feels like plastic. I'll keep using it to see if it grows on me.

Any idea if the s10+ is any different as far as build goes or is it just a larger version of the s10? (minus the obvious extra camera etc.)

I have the ceramic version, so a little more heft but still pretty light. Not sure why you equate weight with cheapness feeling, but I know many people do. I do agree with the fingerprint sensor though, it is not great so far.

I bought this phone for the exact opposite reason. The old s9 was heavy and uncomfortable to use. This is so light, and more battery, it's like some wizardry. Here's hoping next year s11 is even lighter with more maH.

So basically everyone loves different things. A brick is heavy but it ain't premium.

Yeah I guess different people like different things. I just LOVE the premium metal feel around the sides of my s9+. i'm not sure if it's the same on the regular s9 though. I watched the video suggested above and sure enough it is metal. but i wouldn't have believed it if i hadn't seen someone shave metal pieces off of it. haha

I'd rather have a lighter phone. And the person who asked if the + was any different than the regular S10, didn't seem any different to me at the ATT store rather than size and extra camera lense...

I typically get the larger phones but decided to go with the S10 for a change. I think it's built very solid. Doesn't feel cheap at all compared to my Note 9 and S9+. I got the Prism Black version and I like how the aluminum frame has a slight tint to it and not full shiny silver, great attention to detail IMO. I think since you're coming from the S9+ you feeling the weight difference for sure.

I agree that the FPS is a bit slower than my Note 9 and S9+ but I'm liking it in the front as I can unlock my device as I'm pulling it out of my pocket and it's ready to go.

There's definitely a difference between the Ceramic and base versions of the phone. This thing reminds me of some of the old luxury Vertu phones by Nokia. Design, fit and finish just seem to be on another level. It's so striking that I don't even want to put a case on it, however, the fingerprints would drive my OCD level through the roof. That said, I've handled the base S10+ at Costco, and while a little lighter, noticed very little difference from my S9+. I wouldn't say it's cheaper or more premium. I do like how the aluminum frame is black on the black S9+ vs the shiny silver of the S10.

What is noticeably more premium about the S10+ is the display and how they managed to put a bigger screen, larger battery, and power share in roughly the same size body.

Its definitely not plastic. Take a look at jerryrigeverything on YouTube. He does a durability test of this device and all devices for that matter. It is definitely aluminum.
