2 home screens at once?

Hi, I'm new to my Droid 3 and new to the forum. I've been told that I can put apps in folders by opening the folder and dragging the app into it. But how do I do that? When I go to the apps list I lose the screen with the folder on it. Am I doing something silly and is there a cure?

So I messed around a little, and you drag the app from the screen to the folder, while it is closed not open.

Wow, they couldve made this system a bit better, but this what i found out.
