2 Strange Issues Following Update

Hi All -

Just updated my google pixel C with the android system update. Following the update I restarted, and I have come across 2 problems.

1. Half my screen is shaded slightly lighter than the other. It is down the dead center of the screen. It isn't a line, just half the screen is slightly lighter. It does this in portrait and landscape mode.

**update to problem 1** at times during reboot (i.e. trying to boot into recover mode), I have seen 2 different things on each side of the screen. on one side was the android robot, and the other side had the back half of the word "google". So Its like each side of the screen is running independently from each other.

2. When I press the on/off button to put it into sleep mode (or it goes into sleep mode on its own), I have to hold the on/off button for 15-20 seconds just to turn it back on. So in effect, as soon as the screen goes black, its shut down even though I did not turn it off.

Those are only 2 issues I've seen so far. Neither of these problems existed prior to the update. Thank you for any answers or suggestions. Heck at this point is there any way just to remove the update?

Thanks!

Baller

It doesn't let me get into recovery mode. Once I do I have a halved screen. one with a tipped over android robot, the other with the last half of the google reboot letters.

Sounds related to split screen/multi-window. Perhaps cycling through split screen will make it behave.

That's a good thought, but it'd be weird for it to occur in Recovery Mode as well.

that didn't change anything. shading still different directly down the middle. the shading doesn't rotate with i go between landscape and portrait either. its vertical straight up and down when in landscape.

The tablet basic shutting off every time it goes into sleep mode is the most annoying of it all.

I appreciate your suggestions. thank you.

Have you been able to try reinstalling the firmware?

I cannot figure out how to reinstall the firmware...those directions don't match up exactly with the Pixel C, and I don't think I can connect this to a PC, no USB that I can see.

Also, I was able to finally do a cache wipe, but it did not fix the problem.

I am hoping maybe the next update will fix it, and I will never, ever do another update to the device again. Really annoying.

Sorry, I didn't realize the manual firmware installation process is different from Nexus devices. Hopefully someone who has direct experience can chime in!

You likely got a USB-C to USB cable with your Pixel (or perhaps I got mine with my Nexus). If you don't have one, you can find them fairly cheap.

Don't be so down on updates, most users don't appear to be experiencing your issue. Perhaps wait to run an update until you get a feel for potential issues. Still, I didn't see this issue before I ran Nougat.

Considering you see the issue when attempting to enter recovery, I would suggest you call tech support before trying a firmware reinstall anyway. They may have more up-to-date instructions.

Otherwise, you could try these instructions to reinstall the firmware:
