2011 new Sprint 4G Markets???

Funny, I go up the highway 30 mins and I get 4g, down the high way 30mins I get 4g. Just looked at this map and sure enough. That little Area between rhodeisland and Boston that has no 4g,, that's where I am. Lol.

Evo-lution

Haha that's exactly how it is for me at work. A block in either direction and I get two bars but in my office nothing.

Albany, NY should be coming soon. I have had a usable signal in a few areas around the Albany/Schenectady area, granted it is very spotty.

Woow that's a good question cuz I live in Ocala, FL n everytime I travel to Orlando n use that 4g is awesome n way faster n it gets me desperate while I'm waiting, I wish there was a way to knw the future cities

I'm in Ocala as well, and if you look at CLEAR'S website, it shows a lot of Ocala in a 4G area. Something obviously isn't right, because we don't have it...but who knows...maybe soon!

my buddy who works for sprint has told me that sprint has asked the fcc for permission to gut every tower they have and replace everything with 3g and 4g equipment. That will mean every area you get sprint it will be 3g and 4g. Of course this is going to take time and money, but just today we got 4g service in Prescott AZ and we only have 43,000 people in it and are about 140 miles outside of phoenix and a lot further than that from LV. Im also guessing thats part of the reason that sprint raised everyones data up 10 dollars more to try and get that money to implement their 4g and 3g tower work.

Today there was an Engadget article saying Sprint is considering switching to LTE. Whatever the case us Sprint is under fire to at least do or say somethimg. I hope Sprint is modifying all their towers but it just seems like billions of dollars to do that. I'm just a little skeptical.

Just curious, but does anyone know if it is coming to Long Island NY? I know it is in the city and queens, but dont forget the island!

dont trust the maps.

they are used as a crutch by carriers to say that they have coverage there so that they can justify poor customer service. regardless, if youre on sprint and want 4g, call them and complain.

if you call sprint and they get three or more calls regarding the same problem, they initiate a ticket and begin to officially look into the issues the customers are wanting/complaining about

Supposedly Sprint is going to abandon WiMax and switch over to LTE. WiMax is too costly and is the main reason they don't have 4G in as many places as Sprint would like. So they should switch to LTE and all Sprint has to do is a software update for their phones to operate off of the LTE Network.

sorry but your wimax phone will not work on lte.
now on the other end i do believe it is fairly easy to convert wimax towers to lte if thats what they want to do. not sure how this would work with clearwire.

Sorry, phones with the Wimax radio in it can't be upgraded to LTE with a "software" upgrade. It's a hardware difference and is not impossible. The towers can, not the phone.

knoxville, Tn just started working on 4g. Just 2 days ago, we started getting the 4g available notice on our evos at the store. Unfortunately only 1 tower has 4g right now, and it doesnt really work in the store well. Hopefully they put 4g on more towers soon...

Indianapolis is starting to get 4G. The north side along Keystone is pretty strong and I'm hearing downtown is pretty strong as well. I was pulling down 6 mbits but in my apartment it's pretty weak, only getting 3G speeds. 2, maybe 3 mbits.

Well then hopefully if they do switch, they'll give those of us who have WiMax devices a credit or something towards the purchase of an LTE device.

I doubt that will be the case. There's a couple of different ways they could handle the transition, but I'm assuming current WiMax handsets will just be phased out. The phone will still be useful with the 3G modem.

I tend to believe that the WiMAX network will be left operational even after they launch LTE.

Rather an area receives 4g or not is not totally based on population. Its a lot of beauracratic mess involved as well. Metro Detroit has about 4million people and still does not have 4g. I heard it was because the city wouldn't assist in the cost of the towers. Grand Rapids, Mi has it, but they assisted in paying for the towers. Not sure how true that is.
