Hey guys, I originally planned to get the bolt on my upgrade date, march 24 (option 1). Then this morning i call the verizon 800 number to see if they will bump the date to the tb launch on thursday-they say yes, and that i could call in thursday and order it over the phone (option 2). Then i got greedy, and went to a local verizon store, told them of all this, and asked if i could come in thursday and pick up the phone from them-and not have to wait for i to ship to me. The manager at verizon said yes, BUT, i would have to sign on for two years, the $60 plus accessory kit, and the extra $20 a month for hotspot (option 3). Now i would love to pick up the phone in hand thursday-i am flexible on the one or two years, but do not want the accessories nor do i use hotspot, or wish to pay for it. Any ideas?
I may just go in thursday, and tell them what i do and don't want. If they accept that, great, if not, then i will order it over the phone.

They shouldn't make it conditional for you to upgrade if you have to buy all that extra stuff. There is a very strict policy on changing upgrade dates internally within VZW. If it were me, order over the phone and skip the wait in line at the store and buy the accessories you want.

I don't think it should be conditional either. I will go in on thursday, but to my credit, the guy i talked to will not be there. I will ask for one year, no accessories, and no hotspot, or else i walk.

Hotspot is free until May, so the guy was making stuff up. Also, they can't make you buy accessories when buying a phone, unless it's advertised that way. That's a load.

I'd do option 2 if option 3 is persistent.

I can stand my ground, thanks for the support though guys. I really want option 3, but only on MY terms. They can't say it's perfectly okay to move my upgrade date to thursday then try and make me jump through all these hoops. Not sure if i should wait til thursday and tell this to a new guy then, or go in tomorrow, possibly talk to the same guy, and find out early if i can dodge the accessories and hotspot.

This may be a good option. I work for VZW, but not for retail and if a customer called me about this I would be upset. I personally think it's not selling with integrity and doesn't represent VZW well. I feel your pain though, as a VZW employee I can only order online. I have to wait an extra day while you guys can walk into stores and get a Thunderbolt on Thursday. Post how this situation works out. Thanks!

that's tough tron, but thank you for the kind help. I went back and made my stand, but the manager said it would have to be a two year with hotspot and accessories, didn't budge. I told him that customer service allowed me the same option to upgrade on the 17th without any conditions-to which he says he has to justify moving my date up for his superiors. Oh well, i went to another verizon closer to home-they said one year would be no problem, don't have to get accessories, and that hotspot is only tied in since free, and can be canceled in may. I am a happy man, and know what store i will be stalking this thursday, on my day off!

+1

Personally, I would call Verizon customer service and let them know that you feel that manager was trying to charge you for Mobile Hotspot, which is supposed to be free until May 15th. Also, mention, that he tried to push accessories on you that you do not want. Order over the phone, but let them know that you are disappointed with such sales practices at this store.

If you want to have some fun, you can tell the manager about the complaint you are going to file about his store and let him know that you do not appreciate his actions and that you do not think they reflect well on Verizon. He may back down, might even learn something, most probably will not, but there's no reason why he should not have to listen to honest feedback from an intelligent customer.

I'm taking the modified option 3-store closer to home, on thursday-1 year deal, no accessories, and hotspot free with option to cancel in may! I am not a sucker!

I would definitely call Vzw get a manager on the line and place a complaint you might find with an extra 10 mins out of your life you could end up with a great deal maybe even some free credit and go back into the store(If it is not the only one around) and put it all on the table and tell him PEACE but if it is then don't say a word just my .02

I'm in the same boat minus the BS of the manager. I'm gonna go in store and see if they will honor my early upgrade, if not I'm just gonna order online

this is a different store now, closer to home and very nice. Will honor the upgrade bump, one year deal, and no accessories! I just have to stalk the store of they receive the shipment that day!

To me, his behavior is a breach of ethics and should be reported.

Big corporations don't care about a supervisor giving a customer a week or two break. They *DO* care about ethics.

Totally unethical for a major corporation like Verizon.

Have him put that all in writing by email and do it. Then you can reverse the blackmail!

That guy pulled the wool over your eyes. Once the Verizon rep on the phone said yes to bumping your upgrade(standard practice for vzw), it was added to the system. You could've just walked into the store tomorrow and upgraded however you wanted without asking the manager anything.

You could definitely get credit out of this if you really wanted... But I understand just wanting the phone.
