30 minutes with the Moto X

I just spent 30 minutes in solitary with the Moto X. I've recently crossed over the 40 barrier and find reading the iPhone screen to be tedious without reading glasses I left the iPhone and went to a galaxy s3 to gain screen real estate. With the Galaxy s3 I'm able to adjust the font size system-wide and have enough screen real-estate to make it comfortable. The Moto X has a 4.7 inch screen just like the HTC One, however the on screen buttons take up a good chunk of that. There is a large percentage of screen real estate lost when compared to the One when using programs such as chrome or Flipboard. I'm glad I went and looked at the phone in person before purchasing it online. Unfortunately for me a reduction in usable screen size is the barrier that I cannot cross. I was totally on board to buy this phone. I would recommend to anybody to look at it in person before making a purchase. As far as my impressions of the phone go, it is a whole lot more impressive in reviews than in person.

There is no room for buttons on this phone in its current state. They made a nice comfortable one handed device that EVERYONE has said is great in the hand.

It's a weird state of phones when even 4.5" of visible screen real estate is too small for ppl. Suppose that's why its a race to see who can make the largest phone now.

On screen button helps to keep chin/bezels smaller and keeps the phone smaller, lot of people prefer that. I have maxx but im considering x for my wife, Everything about maxx seemed good like any other android nothing extraordinary initially (ofcourse except for battery life) but the experience grows on you when you use, the features become addictive and you cant think of going to another phone, Active display, touch less control, even shake to launch camera are great, Assist is awesome, performance is very snappy no lags at all ..So X is a kind of phone that grows on you ..This is kind of both good and bad for motorola ..as soon you look at the phone you dont understand the hype about it in reviews in few mins you play in the store and pass on it and go for bigger names like s4 and iphone, But who ever buys the phone and use it will have good experience with it and will look forward to buying more motorola phones in the future ..

Also as you mentioned you prefer big screen phones ..may be consider galaxy note?

I just got back from looking at the Moto X and the HTC One. I agree that the on screen buttons take up some real estate. However, the physical dimension of the HTC One is simply too large. In addition, I've learned when I switched from the GNex to the Samsung S3, I dislike capacitive buttons. I often hit them accidentally, they are more uncomfortable to reach one handed.

I can say, but for the Moto X, I would be getting the HTC One.

I did check out the phone at an AT&T store this afternoon and it does fit nicely in the hand. I currently have a GNex and sometimes there are areas of the screen that need a grip adjustment before reaching.

BTW, based up on the race to make the largest phone, two spots down from the Moto X was the Samsung Galaxy Mega. 6.3" of absurdity. Going to need a messenger bag just to carry it around.

I went to the store today and I must say that the moto X will be my next phone. I returned a HTC one. What a I like from the moto X is the more nexus experience and the fact that the size of the phone is great.

You're right, i probably won't even notice it. i should just consider it a 4.5 and then i won't even think twice! lol. oh my pre. . there's probably some logistics reason that i don't understand yet cuz i don't own one.

It's like a "not" phone. lol. A great phone thats... not too big, it doesn't have bloatware. not ugly, it doesn't have bad battery life. and it's not an iphone. lol. Ah, perfect. . every time i went to get a phone i was all "too big" "too glitchy" "don't want an iPhone" "looks ridiculous". lol. Ah, perfect, a phone that's none of those things. yes please! thanks! . Finally. Peppered with, and here's some nice things for your patience, great form and unique, smart features.

I just went to the AT&T store and I kinda agree. I rly like the phone but for $600, I just can't bring myself to do it. The phone is certainly worth it in contrast to the other devices though. If you don't have one of the above devices, I'd say this is the best phone on the market imo. At least for my needs/wants.

Its tough to get attracted to a small looking device, when you have the big screen, big name devices sitting next to it. And nothing about the phone on paper or physically shouts at you , so moto x looks like a tough sell that way. But the thing going for Moto x unlike other devices, anyone who used the device for longer see it as unique expereince, they love to use it in day 2 day use be it easy form factor some sweet features, snappy performance. I think moto x will not sell as well as galxay or iphone devices, But it will do ok as word of mouth will be good. It already shows in the reviews, all the bloggers were like what the hell moto is thinking with the specs, gimmicky feature and stuff like that ..but most of the websites after using the device gave rave reviews.

No, my point was without the width and height the font size is not large enough for my eyes to read it without reading glasses. To be fair there were two Moto X units in the store I was in. One was dead the reason given was that particular charger has issues, the other would not connect to the free AT&T wifi for some reason. I was unable to test out any features which would require a data connection. So , yes that is about all I can take away from the phone. My needs are simple, I need to be able to read the phone without reading glasses. The screen real-estate on this phone is simply too small for my particular needs. That's why I simply suggested before a purchase to go and look at the phone in person.

Did you not know that on screen buttons do this? Its the whole reason they are able to make the phone more one handed friendly. Reducing the chin and top bezel..

I stopped in and checked one out like many others... Going in I've felt this device would flop but after using it for 15 min or so im not sure it will flop.

Playing with moto maker this morning immediately gave me an urge to buy one as the personalization thing started inflating my ego. Holding the phone was the best part. I've not been able to let go of my N4 because of form Factor. After holding the moto I instantly realizes the comfort of my phone had been trumped.

Camera.. I felt like reviews were a bit harsh on the camera. N4 camera is complete trash in my opinion, HDR shots on the X turned out much better than I expected partially because of reviews. The flip motion to get camera on is awesome. Worked every time and camera loaded swiftly.

It didn't have a connection to data so no active notification demo (which is my favorite part of the phone) I'm hanging on the X side of the fence by a pinky. I think this will be a great android new comer phone. My first Android was the s3 and I can't stand Samsung anymore touch wiz is so bloated.

G2, Nexus 5 or Moto X.. I don't want to waste an upgrade haha!
