32GB Galaxy S3 is merely a 16GB with a 16GB Micro SD Card?

Some guy at Costco one day said that the difference between the 16 GB and the 32 GB Galaxy S3 was that the 32 GB merely had a 16 GB micro SD card installed in it and only had 16 GB internal memory. Is this true? If not, then there was probably a miscommunication between me and him.

Lady at Verizon told me it was 16 internal and 16 card. I was going to upgrade but changed my mind.

I thought there was some issues with the 64GB sd cards not working and they needed to be reformatted in FET 32 split

32 is 32 built in internal memory. Phone DOES support up to 64gb external micro SD card. This is fact.

I didn't have any issues with my SanDisk 64gb card... I just popped it in and formatted it on the phone...

Same here. Not that it makes a huge difference to me but I asked him several times and that's what he kept saying and now that I know it to be false, it kinda pisses me off

Edit: although with my wife's law enforcement discount on accessories, it turns out it was cheaper for me to get a 16 GB S3 + 16 GB sd card than a 32 GB S3

It only needs to be formatted FAT32 if you want to backup/restore to the removable sdcard in clockwork mod or flash a AOSP/CM9/CM10. For those remaining stock, exFAT is fine.

There is only $50 difference between the 16 and 32gb versions. Understand that you cannot load apps to the SD card. Out of the box the end user has 12gb available in a 16gb version.

I was told the EXACT same thing.....I am guessing because they were out of 32GB phones. I may try to take it back now that I know he lied to us:(

Hahahahahaha...funny.

Seriously though, sometimes Costco adds something extra to electronics they cell. I don't know if this holds true for cell phones. But I woudn't be surpised if they threw in an SD card with a phone purchase.

I have a 32 Gb S3 and it had 28 Gb available for apps, files, etc.. It'll also take a 64 Gb SD card, but I don't have one installed.

Show them this image if they try to say it again.

It is a shame that many of the people the majority of the buying public have to rely on when purchasing a mobile device truly do not know what they are talking about.

The majority of my experiences when going in to purchase phones end with me shaking my head at how little many reps know about the products they are selling.

It is no wonder many people have such low opinions about mobile carriers.

I feel like a fool because I THOUGHT I had done my homework............I even went back later yesterday to get my husbands phone, worked with another rep and made a comment about what the previous rep said...she didn't disagree..........

Something tells me that they were out of 32GB and they wanted to move the 16GB ones and started bundling them with 16GB SDcards. BTW, I have a 16GB with a 32GB SDcard and it suits my needs very well.

ha, he's an idiot. Neither come with a removable micro sdcard and the numbers are for actual INTERNAL storage.

Yes, he is an idiot or a liar. But he works in a phone booth in Costco so I wouldn't expect much especially if he is trying to sell you a 16 GB phone when you want 32 and he doesn't have it.
