3G Evo Issues???

So I just purchased an Evo, leaving my Palm Pre behind.

Only one issue seems to bother me, and that is the lack of 3G speed....during testing.

In the normal operations of the phone, it seems as if 3G is working perfectly fine, and very fast as Sprint's network usually does.

However, I measure the speed with SpeedTest.net app, and I am barely getting 130kbps!! I also measured it with other online sources, and they agree! When I was on my Pre, my AVERAGE was 1.1mbps.

Again, it doesn't seem as if the internet is actually any slower but.... still worrisome.

Anyone else have this issue?

I haven't ran a speedtest, but here in NYC (astoria queens) my 3G speed has been pretty rock solid, I was just watching some YouTubes (regular quality) before and downloading apps - everything is off w/out a hitch.

I'm having similar issues with speedtest - it shows slow one time (around 0.3 Mbs) then 1.2 Mbs the next - yet when browsing the internet it seems way faster than my iPhone 3GS on AT&T. I was having trouble at times getting a server anywhere near me (LA), but when I got home I started getting the LA server and its showing very snappy speeds.

Exactly! It seems as if the speed test is wrong! I can watch YouTube HQ videos like a breeze, but my speeds show like 1xRTT!

I don't know what's wrong! Sprint's network here has always measured over 1Mb on my Pre before.

yeah I got ~300k down on the speedtest APP but on the speedtest website (flash ftw) i got 1.13 down.

Looks like the app is broken.

AH! Yes, the app is broken. On the website, I get the usual 1.1mbps.

It's even funnier now. These were my results on the app:

325Kbps DOWNLOAD
626Kbps UPLOAD

Yeah..... right....

Where is the server being pinged at in regards to your location?

well, where I live, on a rant, an instinct, and a hero, I have gotten 3g a handful of times in either the in n' out drivethru or the walmart parking lot. thats it. just got my evo tonight and am showing 3G all over the place. but the icon does dissappear sometimes so I know the icon isnt just stuck there. and I am not browsing the web or anything at 3G speeds, and speedtest once gave me 125 down and 994 up, but then it gave me 89 down and 9 up, once it gave me 174 down and spiked to 2242 up at first then settled to give me 232 up...


not sure whats going on unless sprint is just now tonight launching 3G here and its just acting up.. (of course I know thats not the case)

If you're using the ookla speedtest.net app, then location is important. It uses locations to test that are usually like hundres of miles away because you're running it through a wireless 3G connection. If you change the location in the app then you will see big differences.

i got 6 down and 1.5 up on my WiFi. I usually am around 12 down on the desktop but it looks like comcast is having another "we give you half the service for full price" day because the desktop shows 6 too

I got 1457kbps down and 710kbps up. That's via 3G using a server in Milwaukee, WI(where I'm located). Man I love this phone.

I hope they told you that extra $10 was for a slower network speed and not a fast one. Guess it depends on your definition of "premium".

I actually ran another one today, and I only got 180 down but I got 1570 up. and even though I always have 1x download speeds, I consistantly am getting pings in the 30's, which I never got with 1x. went to the sprint store and asked him about it and he said that his phones been connecting and disconnecting from 3g as well.(he had the hero last time I went in) and told me that we are actually supposed to have 3G here within a month or two and they are working on it now...

thats the last thing I need to shut my tmobile friend up lol... no 3g for him either but his edge or whatever it is is faster than my 1xrtt...
