3G Now, Will Get you Unlimited 4G after 7/7

Re: Loosing your grandfathered "unlimited"

Alright great, thanks guys. The other thing that really threw me through a loop was that he also said that RENEWING your contract would cause me to loose my grandfathered unlimited also which seems like serious BS...

I think I'm just going to go for it.. get my buddies phone, upgrade to unlimited, and get the Bionic when the time comes and just see what happens. Verizon and their douchebaggery... seriously. Such crap.
Do not deal with that guy again. Under no circumstances. In fact, any activations (contracts) you do is where the commission is.

All i want to know is, how does someone grandfather into something they never signed a contract for?

This is for those people that got a Smartphone and went on a monthly basis.

They never use the term Grandfather, they simply state that you can keep your current unlimited plan. No mention of being "in contract" or month-to-month.

Re: Loosing your grandfathered "unlimited"

Is there a difference between a "renewal" and an "upgrade"?

After reading the thing about getting out of your contract with Verizon because of the change in regulatory fee, could we use that to our advantage.

Could I do this:

1. Buy a subsidized 4G phone before July 1st so that my contract has the old regulatory fee.
2. I have 60 days from July 1st to cancel my contract without an ETF.
3. I end my two year contract but keep my service with Verizon.
4. Then I can by a Droid Bionic with subsidized pricing whenever it comes out and renew my 2 year contract.

I see one problem with this, will i be allowed to keep the original phone or how would that work?

What thing about getting out of the contract? If this is actually plausible then I might take advantage of it to get them off my back permanently. No Bionic for me then, but I could live with it.

The problem I see with that logic is that VZW isn't breaching their side of the contract, because data-plans aren't contract-bound. They're features and you don't have to promise them to pay for Data for two years or you incur an ETF - you can get in and out of a smartphone as you please without changing the contract.

New Verizon Fee Increase May Allow You To Break Your Contract With No Early Termination Fee

there you go, its something different

not related to the data plan changes

Sigh, i still dont know if having a smartphone is worth the cost and trouble.

After using the Droid Charge i realize i dont really need this. It is a luxury item, but im not sure its worth the admission, for me.

However i do have 1 week left to decide, and a Blackberry Bold waiting in the wings to lock in. Well see what ahhpens in a week to convince me, Smartphones in general with data plans are worth it.

I litterally just returned my charge and went back to my BB Storm 2. Hold onto your Bold and the End of waiting will happen soon :)

well like i said, waiting isnt the issue now

its, do i still really want a smartphone? if i do itll be the bionic, but the question is, do i?

It does not matter if you are month to month because you still are a customer of Verizon and as long as you have the unlimited data you will still have it. Basically its you having a smart phone and you must HAVE the $29.99 unlimited plan or business plan in order to have your phone activated. So you do have unlimited now and will after 7/7

I've been told two Verizon reps now that even if you lock in the unlimited before the 7th, any changing of the phones will render that useless and you will be switched to the tiered system anyways. That goes for upgrading your phone, getting a warranty replacement, etc etc.

Personally I find this to be total crap on Verizon's part, but having heard it from multiple sources, one of which was a store where I know the owner and definitely trust his employees (hence the reason I went there to confirm the information).

Just a heads up for people who were planning to do like me... lock in the unlimited now and then just get the Bionic when it gets released.

Thanks a bunch Verizon, you just pooped all over my plans ya jerks.

It is crap. My verizon corporate store and the *611 CSR I talked to both said you get grandfathered if you are CURRENTLY on an unlimited smartphone data plan (had to clarify because feature phones don't count from what I hear). It is new customers and those that make changes to their plans. Upgrades/renewals will not change this. It is even in the training slides from VZ. They may try to talk you into a tiered but you just have to be adament about not taking it and retaining your unlimited.

then perhaps I'm just an idiot and very confused. Haha, could you please help me clarify my situation?

I DO NOT currently have a data plan, but want to get one. BUT, if I get one say, tomorrow, and just use my buddies old Droid, and then buy the Bionic and activate that when it comes out, do you still think I'll be OK?

its what everyone else is doing who needed to get the Smartphone Unlimited data. as long as your account reflects Unlimited smartphone data by 11:59pm 7/6 you should be just fine :)

are you going to a corporate VZ store or a retailer (we have Ensignal VZW retailers here in my town along with the corporate stores). Either way they all should have been updated this week with the latest info (aka you will be grandfathered if on smartphone unlimited). But if it is a retailer I wouldn't put much stock into them because they know less than any of them (CSR/Corporate stores).

***Side note this is post 100 for me LOL***

I'm not sure but I believe they were both corporate stores? I'm just going to go for it I guess... If you guys don't mind one more stupid question, what exactly should I tell them? That I want to upgrade my plan to include unlimited data for smart phone use?

I am also not the only line on my plan, there are two other lines as well. Would it be worth me just getting my own contract that is just my line?

yes to the add unlimited smartphone, not necessary for the other lines. the data is tied to your line specifically not the others.

Alright cool, well I think I'll just go for it and if we're wrong we're wrong and I'll just eat the costs when the time comes.

Thanks for the tips trail!
