3G Now, Will Get you Unlimited 4G after 7/7

I sent an email asking about the bionic and usually they say they have no info except this time the rwp said if and when the bionic is released you can keep your unlimited data plan. Hm

well like i said, waiting isnt the issue now

its, do i still really want a smartphone? if i do itll be the bionic, but the question is, do i?

Suggest you make a list of features you'd like and features you can't live without, see if they're available on a non-smartphone. If they are, then you just saved $360/yr.

if you want to change your texting preferences, lets say from unlimited to like the $5/250 messages does that mean you are changing plans and I would need to do that before 7/7 so as not to get hit with the tiered data? (trying to make 2 smartphones affordable possibly. on a family plan)

Just got my email response from VZW. Will take it to the bank (errr store) when I go to upgrade to bionic for myself and the Droid 3 for the wife. I removed my last name to protect myself :)

Dear James XXXX,

Good morning Mr. XXXX. I can understand your concern. My name is Dana and I am eager to clear up any confusion. I am delighted to inform you that your existing unlimited data plans for each of your lines of service will not be changed and you can retain it, even if you upgrade from your Blackberry Storm 2 to a new Smartphone, such a the Motorola Droid Bionic . The new data plan pricing, which has not been officially released and cannot be commented on until an official announcement has been made from Verizon Wireless, applies to new lines of service only and existing lines upgrading from feature phones/multimedia devices to Smartphones. I know waiting on a device can seem like forever. I wish I had a date to provide however we do not like to raise expectations that may not be met. You may also receive free e-mail updates as to when new products and services are available. Mr. xxxx, I hope the information provided was helpful. We appreciate your business and thank you for being a loyal Verizon Wireless customer.

Sorry for the too-late reply, but texting (SMS) preference doesn't affect eligibility for the unlimited data plan. If both of your smartphones were on unlimited data (BlackBerry or Android or iPhone) before today, then they'll continue to be unlimited now. Hope you made it!

oh god and that is the truth. "Hope you made it". I forgot today was 7/7 after the rough night I had last night lol.

So out of curiosity does anyone have stories about being able to upgrade to a new phone and keep unlimited data yet?

Considering the D3 has gone in and out of "Out of Stock" on the VZW website from yesterday and today, and guys posting that they have been receiving them all afternoon, I'd assume there's a lot of online ordering going on for it right now.

Between here, Phandroid and Hofo, I have to believe their would be a royal ****-storm on the forums if people were finding out they got duped into needing to update their plans after being led to believe they could keep their old ones.

I checked the data plans on the verizonwireless website. There is no longer an option for unlimited data for $30(which, of course we all know) My point is that the data plans that are there are the same wether it is 3g or 4g. That makes me think that there really is no difference as far as verizon is concerned between 3g and 4g. if that is the case, I think we can rest easy that even when upgrading the phone, the data plan price would stay the same.

if you login and go to upgrade, the unlimited option is there if its already on your account

example: i'm eligible for an upgrade on my original droid, added the charge to my cart and under features i can pick 2gb for $30 or unlimited for $30 - tough choice

third party retailers have a similar system setup. if you try on amazon, it has an option for "keep existing unlimited data" (which is verified by verizon)
