3G Tethering

Anybody know if Sprint allows 3G tethering (NOT 4G)? I know Sprint Hotspot 4G tethering costs $30 per month, but what about tethering with 3G?

its the same price.
They don't charge for 4g tethering, they charge for tethering period. Its just a perk that 4g tethering is enabled with their hotspots app, cuz other tethering apps that are free for rooted people don't support 4g sadly.

I ask because my DSL went out over the weekend and was tempted to plug in the phone via usb n hit tether.

I think it is $30, but there are other ways to get it.... Search is your friend, and so is Google.

If you want 3G tethering, a one-time purchase of PdaNet from the Market will do it for you - and with no monthly fee.

dude just root and do it free. Rooting consists of getting an app from market called z4root...running the app then wifitether is free and your done.

I use wireless tether which is free in the market and it works fine with 4G, just need to be rooted.

What Version works with Epic? I cant get mine to work i am rooted and all... thanks

Update: ok here is what you need to do the latest version in the market does not seem to work at least not for me Use Wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9.apk this version worked for me after install reboot and then tether away... Please note this is adhoc so most other mobile devices will not connect to it like ipods and what not If any one knows of a newer version that works as a normal wifi hot spot please let me know...

Well there's a couple problems.
one, the wireless tether from the market reportedly does not work on the epic, and you actually need to go download a different version online.

Two, can you please perform a speed test from your computer while tethered. I'm actually going to be in a 4g area, so if this viper rom works with 4g ill try it. Just a heads up 4g doesn't really work with quantum 1.5. For me it would connect but it would not transmit data.

If you want the z4root app, do a Google search for the apk. Put it on your sd card, use a file app to find it and install it. Just like installing. Normal app

And about the 4g tether, you can connect and it'll improve your ping and upload speeds.
But my download speed was still around 1.2mbps but it did actually go higher to like 1.5-6 for a second or two.
