3rd party camera apps don't work with my G4

I've tried using other camera apps on my G4 (Camera FV-5, Camera Zoom FX) on my G4, but the camera remains dark (see attached photo). The selfie camera works fine, but the front facing camera doesn't work. I can only get the front facing camera to work with the stock camera app and also Google's Camera app.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Is your phone on Marshmallow? If so, go to Settings>Apps, select the 3rd party camera app, then Permissions, and make sure the Camera permission is turned on.

Yes, Marshmallow.

The settings are already set as you mentioned.

The selfie camera works just fine (with this app). The main camera does not work.

it's always possible that those particular camera apps aren't fully compatible with the phone (or have bugs that conflict with it). Another possibility is that some other app is retaining partial control over the camera. Try uninstalling any other camera app besides the stock Camera, and also uninstall anything that controls the LED flash (like a 3rd party flashlight app), because the flash is part of the camera.

It may not. I tried using the G4 when it first came out with the app Technique. It wouldn't work with the G4 but had worked fine with the G2. The developer told me the G4 camera was totally different. Eventually they made changes to allow it to work.

I found the solution. There's a setting for "use legacy camera drivers" and I had to set it to use that option.
