4.2.1 Update Received

Re: 4.2.1

Anyone who didn't have problems with the original 4.2 update having problems with this update? I'd rather skip December then have to factory reset the Nexus7.

I've never had any problems, and I've now had 4.2 and 4.2.1 and still running beautifully, I don't think there's anything to worry about with this one.

Re: 4.2.1

I checked this morning and still no update. I did the force stop trick on Google Services Framework and then the update showed up.

Re: 4.2.1

I have it on my Nexus 7 but hasn't reached my 4 yet.

I will say that 4.2.1 does NOT fix the random reboot issue with HD Widgets, so off my device it goes again.

Re: 4.2.1

Project: platform/build

  • d4382dd : bump version to 4.2.1
  • 476750c : JOP40D
Project: platform/external/bluetooth/bluedroid

  • 0d15318 : Add HID gamepad/joystick as supported HID devices
Project: platform/frameworks/base

  • b361b30 : Revert "NumberPicker should adjust min and max when displayed values are set." (a.k.a. Santa is back)
  • cc2e849 : Notification vibration improvements: [DO NOT MERGE]

that's direct from the source commits. It adds support for joystick mice and fixes December in the people app. Nothing else.

Re: 4.2.1

So I got my update but it keeps failing during install. I'm rooted and every time the update starts it kicks over to CWM recovery and stops with a message something like, "do you want to install this untrusted zip file" I say yes but it still fails. I have even tried to manually install the update through CWM but that fails too. My N7 is rooted but otherwise stock, I have not removed any stock apps or flashed roms or kernels so WTF...any rooted N7s having this issue?

If you have a custom recovery (CWM) you're not really "otherwise" stock, and you can not do OTA updates.

Re: 4.2.1

Don't have mine yet. Has this update solved the screen flicker problem on auto brightness?

Re: 4.2.1

I have resisted updating to 4.2 and still using 4.1.2 but am starting to get tired of the constant notification to update. Anyone know if I will get the 4.2.1 and be able to leapfrog the 4.2 update and go straight to 4.2.1 many thanks

Re: 4.2.1

Usually when you have an urgent bug, and you are ready to patch it, you take all the patches that are 100% ready and roll them out together. So even though this update is to fix the critical December bug, there might get be 70 actual bug fixes and tweaks in there. If you are forced to fix something might as well fix whatever you got ready at the same time.

Re: 4.2.1

My motorola bluetooth headphones now have gaps in the audio. Worked perfectly before the update. Anyone else?

Re: 4.2.1

I think people should make it clear which update they are talking about. Is it really necessary to download 4.2 to get 4.2.1 or will I be possible to leapfrog 4.2

Re: 4.2.1

Houston, TX - Nexus 7 on 4.2

Still no update. Tried checking manually every few hours since yesterday. Even reboot my N7 to see if it will get it afterward. (worked last time)

If you think you're ready to update, I would just let the automatic updates do their thing, whether it's leapfrog or not. I would be somewhat ready to do the steps to clear the cache if needed, but that's pretty easy.

Re: 4.2.1

Anyone else having issues with Facebook since 4.2 update? Now with 4.2.1 it seems to be worse.

Nothing here yet. Tried the forced update trick but nada. Why does it always take so long for an update? 4.1.2 took over a week to reach me. How come it doesn't update as soon as Google issues a new version, what's this rolling out nonsense?
