4.2.2 OTA and ClockWorkMod Recovery [SOLVED]

I have a Yakju Maguro which is currently running JOP40D. I recently installed the ClockWorkMod v6.0.2.3 recovery, and rooted my phone. Now I received the notification for the 4.2.2 OTA update, but as expected CWM gives me an error when attempting to install it. It says "Install Untrusted Package?" and gives me Yes or No as options. Until now, I've always been weary to try the Yes option, so I've always gone for No, and the update obviously didn't install.

So my question is, will it actually work if I select Yes? And if it doesn't, in what condition will my phone be after it fails? Will it boot into the old OS, or will I have to manually re-flash a ROM?

I've tried googling the problem but no one seems to be facing the same exact condition as me. Eveyone reports that the installation simply fails with CWM, and I've never seen any mention of a Yes/No prompt. Also, I haven't found any thread that mentions in what condition the phone will be after the failure, so I'm trying to figure out what's going on.

In addition, I've manually downloaded the "07501b11ad3b.signed-yakju-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.07501b11" zip file from the Google website. Will I be able to flash that instead from CWM, make things simpler?

Thanks for any help!

Re: 4.2.2 OTA and ClockWorkMod Recovery

Yes, it should work if you press Yes. most failure is caused when a lot of modification to OS is done.

its the official OTA update what are you weary about? its coming directly from google.

doing it manually or OTA is using the same file. the only difference is you downloaded manually but OTA downloaded it for you.

if you are on JOP40D just flash the file you downloaded using clockwork mod. i did it that way. make sure the file you downloaded is the right file.

Hello, and thanks for you reply!
No, what I was wary about were the reasons behind the "Install Untrusted Package?" message. I had no doubts about the integrity of the update itself, since as you said it's coming directly from Google.
The reason I was worried was that no guide I found online on updating OTA ROMs with CWM ever mention the "Install Untrusted Package?" message. Did it do it for you when you flashed the file, too?

I assume that what you mean by "a lot of modification to OS" would be like removing system apps, etc.? I didn't do any of that. I did install SuperSU though. I can't think of any other OS modification I could've done. If I did do any modifications which I can't remember, what would be the result of a failed update? Would it revert to 4.1.2, or would I end up with a non-booting phone?

that message wont show up if you install 07501b11ad3b.signed-yakju-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.07501b11" zip file directly from CWM.
I installed it that way and it didn't give me any message and i recommend doing it that way and forget about the OTA update..
i didnt try the OTA via CWM so i cant confirm that.

before you do this take a backup of your system using titanium backup.

Understood, thanks! Perhaps even a nandroid backup? Can't hurt...

Please bear with me, let's talk worse-case scenario. Let's suppose I did make some system modifications, which I may have forgotten. What would be the result of a failed update due to OS modifications? Would the phone reboot back into 4.1.2, or would I have to restore the backup / wipe phone and install OS from scratch?
