It's not that this phone isn't great with 4.1, it's that there is no good reason for HTC to not have shipped it with the current OS in the first place. The next update will likely be more significant and you'll wish our OEM was more attentive to these things.
Sure there is. It's called user experience. Phones take about 18 months to develop. By not refocusing their efforts on a new version 3 months before they are going to announce, but instead focus on optimizing the user experience on the code base they have. Thus the HTC One being praised for how smooth and lag free it is, while you can find thread after thread in the Galaxy S4 thread decrying lag, so much so that updates have had to be released to deal with the issue. HTC had to have the experience be as perfect as possible out of the gate, and made a calculation to do that by releasing on 4.1.2 instead of 4.2.2. Now, it is likely they won?t release 4.2.2 until they are sure they experience will be just as smooth. It's not that this phone isn't great with 4.1, it's that there is no good reason for HTC to not have shipped it with the current OS in the first place. Well, I'm sure hTc wants it right for us...the consumer...but the consumer is always right so I WANT THE FREAKIN' UPDATE NOW!! They need to give it to me and give it to me real goooood. No lube. No WD-40. Just the 4.2.2 update. Or...or...I will sell my One and use my broken Palm Pre from now on. You hear me HTC?? Huh??
Then I woke up and realized that my phone runs great as it is. If they release 4.2.2 and it's even a better experience, I will be ecstatic...but if it borks my phone, I'm gonna be UUUUUPSET! So as far as I'm concerned, they can take all the time they need!!
