4.2 Impressions

You have to manually unlock the developer settings by clicking on build number a few times. Oops.. Didn't realize there were 9 pages on this topic.. Can a mod delete this?

Unless I am imaging things, looks like Bluetooth hot spot (with FoxFi) is improved. With 4.1.2, my N7 Chrome browser had an Internet connection, but not the facebook/twitterl apps. Now those 2 apps do with 4.2.

EDIT
GMail works now too via BT hotspot.

For anyone in Canada, Rogers One number stopped working after the update, after I un-installed it and re-installed it works again.

You mean development? I did that by accident to see if I could find any easter eggs

Just updated to 4.2! Every time I select users and try and get my user profile it says unfortunately users has stopped working. Has anyone else had this problem? If so is there a fix?

I can't find out how to turn of screen rotation, I liked the lock symbol in the drop down menu.
I can't find it in display settings either, can anyone help me out?

Sweep your finger downward (from the top of the display, but on the right side of the camera) to display a pull-down menu that has the AUTO ROTATE icon.

my experiences and things i have noticed/liked/disliked.
tablet has been sitting idle for pretty much 10 hours since the update...still stiiing at 97%
screen fades when turning off
daydream feature is pretty cool on the phone...it sits in a dock all day, after about 2 minutes the clock (or whatever scene you have set) pops up.....very nice IMO.
gallery was working fine for me viewing and editing photoes. could even view photosphere images that i beamed to the N7 from my nexus.
clock app is great....love it.
Lock screen.....not a big fan yet. i dont like the fact that it shows the "next page" over when i wake the device....i dont like the smaller lock ring, i dont like the google now trigger being in the navigation bar. the lock screen widgets are really limited right now, i expect devs to be able to have their own widgets to be placed on the lock screens. I DO like being able to go anywhere outside of the lock ring to unlock.
quick settings need some work....they are nice, dont get me wrong...but right now they just take you quickly to the settings...they dont actually turn on the wifi, or BT, just takes you to the settings which you then turn them on. also setting an alarm creates a new "setting" in there...but tapping on it just closes the quick settings and doesn't take you to your alarms. hoping custom ROM makers can fix/enhance these
home launcher seems faster and smoother than before.
there are other little animation changes here and there (multitasking button for instance takes your current app and "slides" it in there at the bottom)
not a fan of the quicksettings and notifications being seperate drop-downs....maybe in landscape and on larger tablets, but not on the smaller screen and in portrait mode. doesn't make sense to me.

things to note:
phone camera is awesome. photosphere is great
phone comes with "browser" app and not "Chrome"

yes there are apps that FC since the update...its like this every time. give the devs more than 2 hours to update their apps and you will be OK. this is the nature of being on the cutting edge of software.

overall, i really like the update. I do think google has gone a little too far with the lock screen changes this time around. they are nice and easy enough to customize and add and move around, but i think 4.1 did it right. i could unlock, launch the camera, or launch G-NOW all by starting my finger at the lock ring....now i have 3 different places for 3 different functions. also the lock screen widgets give a "bloated" feel to the OS right from the get-go.

I set up a user account for my husband and haven't had trouble yet. That said, I don't know his Google login so I haven't done that. It's a really nice function if it works properly! Also don't like the lock screen widgets the way they are now. It doesn't take much to open email as it is. Now it's a security risk if I use it. I'm still getting used to the new keyboard, but I like it so far. Dolphin browser works fine for me. I'm just a standard user though and don't have anything more than games and pinterest going on at this point. :-)

Is there a way to add your own words into the predictive text that comes up from the keyboard? I tried adding a word to my "Personal Dictionary" but it won't pop up as i'm swiping text.

I wish I could disable the "right side with one finger" pulldown for quick settings. I only want quick settings with two fingers. I get quick settings a lot when I want notifications.

Google Voice finally got an update after 8 months. No tablet interface just bug fixes. Better than nothing, I guess.

There's also a new, annoying nanny like notification when turning the volume up using the hard button while the audio is being played through the headphones. Haven't found a way to disable this so far. Come on Google, don't baby me as if I'm an Apple user(although that prospect is looking pretty good).

Google Maps either crashes or reboots while navigating. Luckily the navigation app doesn't crash otherwise I would have felt that Google shouldn't have bothered putting GPS on the N7(and I would've just bought the ipad mini!).

I like 4.2 a lot. The double panel notification bar is cool as hell.

I like it. Pushed it using adb.

Bad - Clock occasionally comes up with force close even when not being used.

Good - The multi user is great. Had no problems using it.

Oh and love the Notifications left hand slide down, settings and user right hand slide down.
