I am getting an error in the play store. I cannot download new apps or install updates. The error I get is: Update for "Maps" could not be downloaded due to an error. Error retrieving information from server (RPC:S-5:AEC-O])

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus is stock. My Google Play Store build is 4.2.3

Have you tried clearing the cache from the play store app? You can do this through the app settings. Menu - system settings - applicants - all.

I just had this issue too. Only thing that fixed it was tip remove my Google account from the device and add it back again.

I just tried that (based on your recommendation) and I still get the same error.

I removed the account and then added it back in. All systems go. Thanks guys!!

I have the exact same issue on my GNex. I'd like to try this solution, so can you give me the step-by-step to remove my account and add it back?
Thanks!

Update: I figured it out, you have to select the account again, then it gives you the options screen. I deleted the account, then powered down. After a power up, I got the same error messages as soon as I re-added my google account. But I waited 30 minutes and tried again, and everything worked fine. THANKS VERY MUCH for the solution, the Forums are awesome!

same issue here with galaxy nexus.

Looking at above post, if I delete my account , will i lose all my files(pictures.. )?

Go under settings then you will see accounts and click Google from there you will see your Google accounts which you can then choose to remove.

I don't think I lost any files

Thanks, that worked, and it doesn't appear that I lost anything. Also everything so far has been updating again, including Google maps.

I simply tried that (based on your recommendation) and that i still get a similar error.

I didn't reboot...will the problem arise again?? Seems to be working fine after just deleting account and re adding it

I don't think so. I believe the advice he was giving was to reboot your phone after removing the account to make sure that all remnants of it got flushed out before you added it back in. If you simply removed and added and it is working then you are probably just fine.

I'd also like to note that the store is working fine on my S4 and I didn't need to remove my account. I've rebooted a couple times since the update, so maybe it just naturally worked its way out.
