Good point. And all very accurate info. Several people tried to roll back from 4.3 using my return to stock zip and sadly all ended up with paper weights so if u want to go to 4.3 I recommend the cnexus thread mentioned b4.

I was probably one of the more successful one's here on AC to make your "non root camera silent shutter sound - hack" work without any problems on my Sprint Samsung GS3 32gb model maybe 3-4 months back or so - maybe longer?

Recently I tried to sideload the XDA 4.3 OTA and it did not work (all of my questions and where others that have responded to me are here in this thread) - I have tried many various ways to install the XDA 4.3 update. I tried installing from my ext card - on my internal card - DL from computer and transferred to my GS3 - DL direct to my GS3 - renamed the file - left the file name alone and nothing worked - I am completely stock except for your "non root camera silent shutter sound - hack" And then I thought maybe it was your "hack" that prevented my success, as I was technically not completely 100% stock - although it was only a few line changes in a file I can't remember at the moment - but it was something like changing one or two statements from "false" to "true" or vise-verse.

My phone works so well, plus the fact that I like your "hack" that I am willing to forgo either the XDA 4.3 or Sprint's OTA 4.3 update. But As I understand and from my own previous experience on my prior rooted Samsung Epic, that if you didn't accept the Sprint OTA, if would remind you to install it every few days. But then I found another small "hack" to null it out.

So my problem comes down to this:

1) I can go back to a completely stock and reset up all my daily driver customizations which is a pain, as I have over 180 apps, therefore resolving the constant OTA reminders

2) root my phone as someone here suggested, and then go into "buildprop" and make some changes in there so I don't get the OTA reminders - although I don't know exactly what to change and then un-root because there maybe a few applications that do not work properly that I use if I am rooted

3) maybe you have a modification that can take your "one click non root hack" out where as not destroying my setup and customizations or if I have to root and undo your mod myself - then un-root.

4) I am still thinking on the best way to do this with the least amount of work - it seems that the minor improvements of 4.3 over my current 4.1.2 is not worth the pain for the little gain - especially since I like my phone as it is - but I dread the forced OTA and the constant reminders that I will most likely get.

But as I said - I would like to find the easiest way out of the potential OTA reminder problems and am willing to forgo the 4.3 OTA and keep my phone exactly as is, if possible. Sorry for being so wordy, but I hope I have explained enough in detail and not confused you.

It must be pushed out extremely slowwww....some of my friends that have had the S3 forever, still have not received it. If its by serial number or esn then I would think the older phones would get the update fairly soon but that doesn't seem to be the case.

i don't think anyone has ever figured out in what order Sprint pushes out the OTAs, or how rapidly. It can take several weeks for everyone to see it, though.

Has anyone notice the Emoji icons look different when posting on IG, FB and Twitter ever since the 4.3 update I know this is minor but I just want see if anyone eles notice the difference. Also I can turn off the flash when I received a call. Any suggestions?

After the holidays I will get back to you, as it is quite hectic at the moment. I will take a video of the whole update sequence, as the errors go by to fast for me to write down or remember the "exact error statements" - I am just assuming your hack was the problem as others have mentioned, but I am sure we are all guessing - it may be my phone that simply does not like the XDA OTA *.zip. I should probably wait and make sure the final "actual Sprint Push of the OTA" arrives to make sure it is the same file pushed as the one XDA has.

I don't want you to waste your time until I know fore sure, although I don't know what else it could be? I will make the video anyways just so you can see the error, because by looking at the error you might be able to make an educated guess and it might not be your hack at all , but a problem with my phone.

I really appreciate your willingness to help and look into my problem though - for that alone I thank you very much! I will contact you once I get the video done.

Just update using Kies, took about an hour and it's running. Everything looks fine. If you have anything in the download app clear it all out because it will constantly pop up after the update.

Thanks for your fix, man. The number of pictures I took after using your camera mod increased tenfold.

When I tried before, I'm pretty sure the error that was popping up was:
Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (status 7)

The file that it was crapping out on was:
/system/csc/feature.xml

I'll probably use a custom recovery and flash the update without Knox so it's not a big deal for me anymore, but hopefully this will help you help others.

I really like your mod and how my phone works now on 4.1.2. I just don't want to get a nag screen on OTA unless 4.3 is a need to have efficient update - so my question is, do you know where in build.prop if even that is the correct file to modify and what lines to modify to stop nag screens? Of course this is premature, as I have not even gotten the Sprint OTA push yet and do not know if I will get a nag screen after or if the Sprint OTA fails (if it fails, because maybe the OTA will be slightly different than XDA's version). I guess I will have to wait and see.

Thank you for the error verbiage, as that might be correct on all the errors I received. I was also thinking of possibly going the same route as you and crossing my fingers that being rooted will not affect Google Play Movies and TV (old version 2.1.14), Google Wallet, and Hulu Plus with the side benefit of possibly not getting any Sprint OTA reminders to update.

I also happened to look into the feature.xml and I think this is where billard412's mod was done /system/csc/feature.xml and under <!--Camera--> section for this line <CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu> I am pretty sure that is the line that billard412's mod did - changing false to true.

Please keep me informed or post here on what you end up doing - as you seem to be stock un-rooted with billard412's mod and in similar situation as myself.
