4.4.3 Update

Apparently the problems posted here have been acknowledged: Android 4.4.3 update causing bugs with a multitude of Nexus devices | TalkAndroid.com

It's ironic that 4.4.3 was released primarily as a bug fix for 4.4.2, but not only did it not fix the bugs, it apparently introduced new problems. On my HTC One I'm still running the original Jelly Bean that it came with because it is problem free. It is fast, smooth and gets great battery life. I used the Nexus 7 as a guinea pig upgrading to Kit Kat to see how it was and all I've had are problems. The N7 was great with Jelly Bean, but with KK I've had screen responsiveness issues and very, very poor battery life. I may just root and go back to JB until Google can get its act together.

You don't have to root to go back to 4.3 - just go to the download site and pick the build that you want and install it.

Did not know that. Thanks for that suggestion and the download link.

Anyone else noticing a huge drain in airplane mode overnight? On 4.4.2 i was losing around 2-3%. On 4.4.3 im losing 7-8%.. I just updated via the OTA. Im not rooted so.. This update sucks

Mine drains overnight regardless of what mode it's in. I tried clearing the system cache and it didn't help at all.

how much does it drain over a 8 hour period or something? and was you're drain also this bad as on 4.4.2? because i had a good drain over night on 4.4.2 but on 4.4.3 it's just bullsh*t . 7-8 while doing nothing. i also tried clearing the cache but no luck..

Dowloaded the update yesterday for my Nexus 7 2013. Last night the tablet froze during Angry Birds and the sound went scratchy. Turned it off and now it won't turn back on. No battery charging icon. Nothing. Tried all the methods for restarting -- holding down Power for 15-30 seconds, Power & Volume. Nothing. Noticed that the tablet was hot around the USB port. Is the tablet toast? Only 6 months old.

Mine drains the same, sometimes more, while doing nothing. I've got everything Greenified and turned off all location and NFC, Google Services, etc. Also disabled a lot of apps. And it tells me Idle and Android OS are the big battery users.

Conversely, my HTC One is still on Jelly Bean (on purpose) and I have everything turned on and with moderate use I go three days between charges and even then I'll usually have around 30% battery left. Jelly Beans sips the battery while Kit Kat guzzles.

Welcome to the forums!

That's obviously not a good sign. You could unplug the device and let it sit for a couple of hours, then reconnect the charger and see if it begins to get hot again. If it does disconnect it immediately, let it cool off for awhile and then try a different cable and charger. If the same thing happens it's time to contact warranty repair.

Yeah it seems kitkat doesn't do very well. It's just a buggy software i.m.o. My biggest drains are apprently the Kernel and Android OS. I've done a factory reset but the problem hasn't changed.. Wondering if it's an issue with 4.4.3..

Have I missed anything? Need to check the OS version as I haven't noticed any updates but my N7 has been a little bit slower lately
google just released a minor 4.4.4 update (3mb or something) for security fixes.

I heard that 4.4.4 already came out?!?! WHAT?!?

Apparently only to plug a security hole and not clean up 4.4.3's bugs. Hopefully, there will be a 4.4.5 that will do that and by that time Android 5 (Lollipop?) will probably be close to being released.

There are still plenty of phones that haven't received the 4.4.3 update yet; heck, I think a few are still getting 4.4.2. It's laughable about how long it takes to get updates in the Android world.
