Using Odin to flash the latest philz recovery then flashing the SuperSU zip is the way to go. IMHO

This is what I did...while also preceding the above by using Odin to put the stock sprint kitkat in place - yup, with knox and all.

Philz Recovery has an option to root and reboot even without flashing a zip. But then you do have to install Supersu from the Play Store.
