UPDATE: FCC Documents Reveal 4.3" Screen. Guess we can put this thread to rest.

So taking the Screen comparisons from the Bionic Laying next to the Droid Charge. I uploaded these images into AutoCAD (computer aided drafting software I use at work). I dimensioned the diagonal distance as you see below. Knowing that the Droid Charge screen is 4.3" I used this to determine my scale factor. You can see the calculations. Granted the camera angle is going to distort the results some, which is probably the 0.029" difference we see. I came up with a measurement of 4.529" Diagonal Screen Size.

What do you guys think?

The phone doesn't look much bigger than the Charge, if battery life is good then I will welcome the 4.5" screen.

That is awesome WORK! THANKS for the confirmation

xoom xoom xoom !!!

I hope you are correct, but this was discussed in another thread and MOST people believe it will be 4.3". :'(

Why not do the same with the picture where the screen is centered and is plugged in with a blackberry charger. Just use the size of the charger for the scale.

Do you know the exact size of the blackberry charger?? I have my calibers at work with me but no charger to measure. If someone can tell me the exact measurement within a tenth of an inch (0.01) I can do the same thing.

I hope you are right...and they are wrong.
I will not argue one way or another. All I am doing is presenting the numbers. If someone wants to argue the screen images are incorrect then so be it... Other than that, the numbers are what they are. I did not make them up.

I understand. I would LOVE a 4.5" screen, and I think that will help Bionic set itself apart from the other LTE phones. The bigger the better for me.

Great work with AutoCAD, I hope you are right. As soon as I saw those pics next to Charge, I thought screen was bigger too. May be deceiving due to screen being wider on Charge, like comparing my Tbolt vs Sensation and E3D. But I think it 4.5" as well, time will tell.

Nice work, but that camera angle is really important. I came up with the same figures (approx.) that you were. So, I thought I would do a little test to see how big a difference the angle would make.

I used these 2 equal sized battery doors as a test.:

IF the first one had been 4.3" then by the "onscreen measure and extrapolate method" then the second one would be 4.64".

So, unfortunately, due to the camera angle(we can tell there is an angle, although we don't know how extreme it is) there is just no way to know the size of the Bionic just from the image. But, after my "experiment", I am leaning back to it being 4.3".

Sorry :(

I did a quick measurement of the blackberry charger I use for my phone:

5/16 of an inch, or 0.3125 inches.

I don't have calipers, but that's the best I can do. Hope it helps.

LOL, welp... as they say "looks can be deceiving". I was assuming there was angle error, but was thinking it was closer to 0.03" not 0.300". Good test. Back to assuming we will have a slightly larger phone than the charge with the same size screen... :-\

Unfortunately as GBH2 pointed out, there is too great of camera angle error in calculating the size to be accurate. Thank you for the effort though. We are just going to have to wait it out. Hopefully tomorrow the FCC documents will spill the beans. :D

I'm going with the hope that it's 4.5." That would be another great way for the Bionic to differentiate itself from the other LTE phones. After all, remember when we saw the first pictures of the new Bionic, it was stated on that site that it was 4.5."

I don't think it was stated on the Chinese site that it was 4.5". I think it was when the American sites saw the phone next to the Defy and thought the Defy was an Atrix they speculated it was 4.5" then the internet ran wild with that speculation. I could be wrong though.

Well I actually went to the Chinese site and had it translated and saw the 4.5" number there. But it could still be 4.3" but I'm still hoping for 4.5."

Lol that's cool that you dropped the thing into a drafting program. I like to see some fanboys taking it seriously rather than just groveling over how THEY want it. At this point, I'd say your calculations are correct, but the distortion on the screen and angle just really make it hard to measure. In the end .2 of an inch isn't going to change it that much, but a little bigger would be nice. I won't really care that much, as long as it looks and performs well.
