46 mm vs. 42 mm battery life

I sold my 1st gen. 360 a few months ago, but am thinking about giving the 2nd gen. a try. I've seen a couple of comments that seem to indicate that the battery life of the 42 mm watch is close to the 46 mm. Is there a good comparison of that somewhere? I think I'd prefer the smaller watch, but battery life is critical to me and that's why I sold my 1st gen.

Hi Randy, what kind of hours do you need to get out of your watch?/just curious I have the 42 mm so I can let you know if it's seems realistic .

Re: 46 mm vs. 42 mm battery life

I'd like to get about 16 hours in a day with at least 30% battery left. I probably get 20-30 notifications a day. I'd like to use the Pujie Black watch face with ambient mode on.

Re: 46 mm vs. 42 mm battery life

Here is what I'm seeing with my watch, I've had it 11 days so it has had 11 full charges. I took it off the charger at 8.40 am . I have always on on, and about 2 pm this afternoon I figured out how to disable moto fitness just to see if that helps with battery life. I'm using a stock face right now, bit I usually run a 3rd party face. I got about 6 emails and about 5 texts today. So at this point it's been off the charger for 8 hours and I have 71 percent left. I hope this helps you a little.

The 42mm battery is much smaller. So no, the battery life is NOT close to the 46mm. I believe it is at least 33% less battery. Greenvey's experience seems to indicate you can probably get what you want out of the 42mm... but keep in mind that is with tilt-to-wake off and AMBIENT ON. And more importantly, remember that over the months the battery is going to degrade. In a year, it will last noticeably less, and the year after, a lot less. So keep in mind if it starts out being just barely OK for your needs, you will probably not be happy a year later....

If you have ambient off, then battery won't matter because either watch will last DAYS on a charge. It is only really a game if you want the watch "always on".

It's a shame it's not user replaceable because as it is these 2 year or so year max life items. I figure I'll upgrade every other year, but a battery replacement option would be nice in the future.

Agreed. I am going through this now with my 2-year-old Nexus 5. In all respects it is perfect, except the battery, which is now fading out. And it is nearly impossible to buy/get a battery for it. Crazy.

Re: 46 mm vs. 42 mm battery life

It's part of the reason they're sealing these suckers up. Forcing you to buy one every 2 years. Phone, watch, whatever. For phone I also suspect it's a way for the NSA to be able to turn your mic on and track you, since it's not really "off" when you power it down.

But it's still a shame the batteries have such short shelf lives.

Not on topic but why do you believe that phones that are off are actually on, and running, and connected to the tower? If that were the case, phones would drain the battery just as much as standby, and that is not my experience. Yes I believe there are backdoors. Yes I believe the blackops are tapped into the data transfers, have access to your location data and communications, etc. But no, I don't think phones that are off are still running...

Re: 46 mm vs. 42 mm battery life

My new 360 gen 2 is 13 days old now so I'm sure battery is broke in now, yesterday I took it off the the charger at 7.30 am and it went back on 14 hours later and still had 40 percent left, I used it quite a bit yesterday for emails and texts, played with some new apps ect. I'm running the minimal&elegent watch face with always on on. Tilt to wake off and moto fit disabled.

That is pretty impressive for the 42mm! I am usually at around 70% after 14 hours on the 46mm (with ambient on and tilt-to-wake off and moto fit disabled). But sometimes lower...... I actually don't use it much during the day. Today I used it a lot more than normal for me (probably 7 texts and some other stuff with a total of maybe 12 or 13 wakes) so it is at 69% after 11 hours.

Yeah I'm really happy with my battery ,do you leave your britness setting to auto?

Re: 46 mm vs. 42 mm battery life

Wow this is weird I turned on tilt to wake this morning and its 1.58 in the afternoon and my watch only has 11 percent left and shut itself off. This is very weird !/

Not weird at all. Tilt-to-wake with many people can wake the watch hundreds of times a day. It can pose a serious drain situation.

I hear ya, but I've used tilt to wake almost 75 percent of the time that I've had my watch and never came close to running out of battery all day, especially is 6 hours lol. It must have woke up every time I stired the gravy lol.

To crxssi:
It's just a theory, that they might have a backdoor to activate it since it's really in a state of soft off. I'm not that worried about it, I have a HTC One M9. I think the main reason they do it is to force you to buy a new one in 2-3 years no matter what.

I also disabled Tilt To Wake on my 46mm because of the repeated unwanted waking. (I thought it was just me and my wearing of watches on the inside of the wrist instead of outside.)

With it off (and my low notification count), Motobody ON, I have absurdly long multi-day battery life.

Now that's a "watch"!

Re: 46 mm vs. 42 mm battery life

Turned Always on off. Does crazy good for battery life. As stated elsewhere, multi-days good.
So turned it back on and disabled Wrist-Gestures.
Hope it is an even swap. We shall see.
